i was just curious...current ucla students, what was your gpa in your first quarter freshman year?

haha, nobody responded. i should have guessed. yeah, it's a nosy question...it's just that i keep hearing all these horror stories about first quarter/semester of freshman year where people go nuts and their gpa plummets. but i figured that would never happen to cc kids! =p

yea they told us at orientation that your gpa drops one whole point. i was like ****!!!

if my GPA dropped one whole point, i'd be happy. our inflated HS gpas mean nothing in the real world.

Okay, I will answer :)

H.S. GPA: 4.5

First Quarter: 3.3 (A-, B, B+)
Second Quarter: 3.8 (A, A-, A-)
Third Quarter: 3.8 (A, A-, A-)

Don't worry too much if your first quarter isn't so great. It will get better! I think the funniest part is that I probably went out more 2nd and 3rd quarters than I did 1st and still managed to do better.

now that's the spirit!

here's a girl with some courage!

;)

you're not going to get a representative sample with a post on this message board, and comparing HS/first quarter college GPAs is more or less meaningless because there's so much variance. first quarter college GPA depends on so many different factors (how well and quickly you adjust to college, what classes you're taking, how much you go out, etc) that it'll be different for everyone.

For what it's worth, I had a 3.2 in high school and I've made a 3.9 multiple quarters in a row here in a competitive major. Don't be locked into thinking "your college GPA will be a point lower than your high school GPA," that's BS, college is a whole new ballgame and anything can happen.

ellalovesnyc, mind if i ask which classes u took?

brandnew2:

nice job. you defy the rumors. and give me hope.

your first quarter GPA is going to heavily depend on a whole slew of factors so it's hard to predict. that includes how well you adapt to college, how much you party, how academically prepared you were, your work/life balance or mentality, etc.

my first quarter GPA was 3.68.

1st quarter: A A- A- A (Psych 10, German 50B, Philos 8, Astro 3)
2nd quarter: A A A A (Anthro 8, Comm 10, Comm 89 [honors seminar] Phy Sci 5)
3rd quarter: A A A A P (Anthro 7, Anthro 89 [honors seminar], Ethnomu 20A, Life sci 15, Fiat lux psych 19)

now going into soph year with a 3.9 :)

1st qrt: A, B, B-, P (Econ 1, GE CLST 70A, MATH 31A, SEM)
2nd Qrt: A, A, B-, P (Econ 2, Hist 10B, GE CLST 70B, Sem)
3rd Qrt: A, A, A+ (GE CLST 70C, Arts 10, Astro 3)
GPA 3.6
First quarter is going to depend on how u adapt, if u do poorly don't worry you still got 11 more of them to boost ur GPA. remember ur not going to get a 4.0 here like in HS
