Very good questions and I'm interested as well.

-how many points are given out for each letter grade? because a "B+", a "B", and a "B-" are not all equivalent to say 3 pts right?
A+/A = 4.0
A- = 3.7
B+ = 3.3
B = 3.0
B- = 2.7
C+ = 2.3
C = 2.0
C- = 1.7
D+ = 1.3
D = 1.0
D- = 0.7
F = 0

I'm not too sure about the lower ones.

-also, is it going to be difficult trying to maintain a 3.5+ g.p.a each quarter (i'm in the honors program and was just wonderin)?
It seems like it it may be a bit difficult depending on what your major is; easier if you're doing humanities is what I heard. But it's going to be half B+ and A- for that 3.5.

-do you know where I can find the avg. gpa of ucla students?
I wanna know too. And it'd be nice if they had statistics for specific majors, like what was the avg GPA, most popular specializations/minors/second major for these students, etc.

there was an article in the DB last year sometime that had some stats on which departments had what avg. GPA. I remember that the slavic languages department had the highest average GPA, and engineering had the lowest lol. Don't discount north campus as being easier in general, though. There are easy/insanely difficult classes on both ends of the spectrum. Try reading a single page of Hegel's "Phenomenology of Spirit" and figure out what it means (good luck).

I'm trying to find that article too but I can't find it. Anyway, if I remember correctly, the average GPA at UCLA was 3.1. Some of the science majors (I believe I saw one of the biology majors there) had average GPAs of 2.8 (yikes). I believe the highest was 3.8... that was either music or (as icarus pointed out) slavic languages.
