I tried to improve my writing abilities this last month, and this is an essay i wrote today. Can you plese try to grade it and give me some feedback? thank you!!</p>
<p>Assignment: Do you think that ease does not challenge us and that we need adversity to help us discover who we are?</p>
<p>The discovery of our true self does not lie in moments of ease. Several examples from history and literature show us that to find out our inner persona, who we really are inside, we need to go through hard situations.</p>
<p>For instance, in Margaret Mitchell's novel Gone With The wind, the protagonist, Scarlett O'Hara starts as a superficial character, whose biggest fun is getting as many boyfriends as she can. But then the war comes, and with it, she loses family and loved ones, and is obligated to work for nourishments and for a place to live. With the possibility of losing her beloved farm, Tara, because the taxes are too high, Scarlett works harder then ever and does everything in her power not to lose her home, including getting married to a men she does not love, but who has enough money to pay for Tara's taxes. This moment of severe hardship in Scarlett's life was what showed her the truth about herself: she was not just a silly girl whose only love were parties and men; she was in fact an extremely strong woman, whose heart was willing to do whatever it took to save the things she loved.</p>
<p>Another example may be taken from the classic realistic french novel Madame Bovary. In it, the main character, Emma Bovary thinks she is a passionate strong woman, but whose strenght and passion are inhibited by a placate and dull life in a small town with her monotonous husband who she does not love. She then drives herself in a series of romantic affairs to bring fun to her life. But, when she catches herself drowned in debts, and her lover leaves her, she has no clue what to do. Suddenly, she is no longer the strong woman she always though herself as. Emma kills herself. Hence, Emma's difficult times revealed her true personality: she was just a weak and scared woman.</p>
<p>Therefore, Scarlett's and Emma's stories are two os a myriad of examples in literature that prove that, indeed, hardship, and not ease, is what reveals who we really are, and only going through hard times can we find out the truth about ourselves.</p>
