Hi everyone, I've been working to improve my essay skills, so I would really appreciate some feedback :)

Assignment: Should people make more of an effort to keep some things private?

In our ever changing world, it is more important than ever that people make more of an effort to keep things private. With the rapid growth of technology comes the risk that our lives and personal information will be more easily accessed by anyone at any time. Just as Facebook and cell phones are connecting the world, they too are responsible for our loss of privacy.

Facebook, a popular social network for those of all ages, has become a popular website worldwide. On Facebook, one can communicate with friends, share ideas, and many other things. However, Facebook can also give away one's personal information. I myself confess to going on to someone's wall, the location where people post their thoughts and comments, and looked up information about them without telling them. Although Facebook clams that it protects the users' information, getting around the obstacle is not a hard thing to do. I have had many friends who have told me that their accounts had been "hacked", despite their privacy settings. With so much of our personal information vulnerable and accessible to almost anyone who has a Facebook account, or knows how to work a search engine, it is best that we keep our information private - less we run the risk of having a stranger reading about our lives.

Cell phones, like Facebook, have made obtaining people's information much easier and therefore, are another reason for why we must keep things private. The latest trend with phones is texting: something that is supposedly between two people. However, the message that one sends to a friend is capable of being intercepted. Although most of the people who read our messages are those that work for government agencies, it is also possible that a hacker has obtained the potential to do so. Either way, the fact remains that there are people who can read our private messages. Even easier, someone could take your phone and simply read all the messages until they found what they were looking for. The best way to prevent any of this from happening is to avoid sending private messages and instead, focus on making our lives more private.

The growth of technology has left our population susceptible to people who desire to know more about us without us knowing. Therefore, after a careful analysis of the flaws and Facebook and the dangers of cell phones and texting, we see that people do need to work harder to make their lives more private.
