The prompt is: Can Success be disastrous?

The life of someone successful is not always glamorous or worth living. In some cases it is even worse than a very poor persons life. Focusing too much on being successful is very harmful. You must have a balance in everything and not get to focused on one thing. Two examples are from A Christmas Carol and Greed.

In a Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge is a very wealthy but miserly man. He neither celebrates holidays nor has friends. He focused on his wealth and did not focus on anything else. Scrooges success ultimately changed him. He never had friends and is very mean to his secretary. When ghosts come to visit him he realizes that his success was all for nothing. Money was not the most important thing but rather time was more important. He wanted to leave a positive impact on the world and felt bad about his actions. Scrooge later turned around and reevaluated his life. His success was about to destroy him but luckily he avoided just that.
Greed is a word closely linked to success. To be successful one needs money and power. When someone is so focused on getting money nothing stands in their path. Family, friends, and vacations all become obsolete. We tend to lose track of everything except how to make even more money. Fancy cars, yachts and other material items are all things that we want. But is this all worth it? Our success can mean our own disaster. Money can become a curse even an addiction. We want more and dont know how to stop. This can lead us to bad ways to obtain money or even illegal practices. Many wealthy people nowadays want a quieter life. All the press and publicity is too much for them but ironically was desired by them.
In summary success can be a rampant plague if not kept in check. We cannot let success obscure what we really hold important. Success after all is purely subjective and the owner must know how to use it.
