Quote:
Why do we not value the creative arts more than we do? Why are subjects like music, drama, photography, and creative writing always the first to be cut from school budges during hard times? Many would answer that, unlike math, science, history, and other subjects taught in school, the arts are unnecessary. But this is so untrue. The arts are as necessary as these other subject areas possibly even more necessary.

Assignment:
Is is absolute necessary for people to study the creative arts? Plan an write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

Essay:
Studying the creative arts can bring along numerous benefits to a person, thys it should be absolutely necessary for people to learn the creative arts. Many different kinds of creative arts exist in the world. Each one may give its own unique advantages and enhance some aspect of a person. Creative arts include music, painting, and many more, and each one can give distinct positive to the performer, as shown in many different literatures.

Music is one of the major categories of creative arts. It has long been thought of by people as a necessity in a childs life. Academic and music teachers have worked together with children to help them do better in both subjects than a child without knowledge of music. This has been proven numerous times recently, sited in scientific studies all over the world studying an instrument will help a child focus better in school and receive better marks on his/her report card.

Not only can music aid a childs performance in school, it can also make drastic changes in the life of an adult. The book The Soloist, by Steve Lopez, exemplifies this point. Nathaniel Anthony Ayers, the main character of the book, is a man of 50 years of age living on the streets of Los Angeles. His only companion was his beaten up violin before he met Steve Lopez. Throughout the story, Steve learns about Nathaniels unknowing suffering with schizophrenia. Steve, a man with a family and a stable life wants to quickly help Nathaniel get on the right track, but was stopped abruptly when he realized the sickness should have driven Nathaniel insane, but his violin, the only connection he has to the real world, holds him in sanity. Not only was music something Nathaniel cared about with all his life, it was something that helped build his character into a caring, warm, and calm person opposite of someone who has schizophrenia.

In all, Music, one part of creative arts, can bring tremendous change to a person. One category out of thousands of creative arts can enhance a childs learning ability and build the character of a grown-up. Creative arts should not be abandoned and should be embraced because they are necessary for the growth of a person, even more important than mathematics and reading.
