Significance of Grade Trend

I am currently a community college student in California and I have applied to a handful of UC's for Fall 13 transfer. I am curious about the importance, if any, of grade trend.

My first semester was misguided and dumb, and I didn't really care what grades I got.
Fall 11 - 2.6
Spring 12 - 3.6
Summer 12 - 4.0 (only 7 units)
Fall 12 - 4.0

Cumulative GPA is 3.5 at time of transfer, but obviously significantly dragged down by my first CC semester. Just curious to hear from anyone who might know a thing or two about the importance of the upward trend, and if it will increase my admissions chances to any UC's.

I have pretty weak ECs, work a lot of hours, and wrote what I believe to be quite solid personal statements.

Thanks.
