Graduate school rankings should be released in the next 24 hours

Michigan should be ranked among the top 10 in Engineering, Law and Medicine (one of only two universities ranked in the top 10 in Research and Primary Care). I am curious to see how Michigan will do in the Humanities and the Social Sciences. I will post the results once they are out.

Looking forward to it.

I’m currently more concerned with the NCAA cover vote, haha

^^^haha same. vote for denard

I tend to agree. And then we wonder why people take Northwestern more seriously on CC! hehe! I already voted for DR. Let us hope he emerges victorious.

US News Medical School rankings (UofM in top 10)

UofM is ranked alphabetically as the #8 in research and #6 in primary care, according to US News and World reports ranking of the best graduate programs for medicine. That is out of 149 fully accredited schools.

This was copied off a post on MGoBlog. Obviously it’s in alphabetical order. :-)

Top Research Schools

Columbia University (NY)
Duke University (NC)
Harvard University (MA)
Johns Hopkins University (MD)
Stanford University (CA)
University of California–San Francisco
University of Chicago (Pritzker)
University of Michigan–Ann Arbor
University of Pennsylvania (Perelman)

University of Colorado–Denver
University of Massachusetts–Worcester
University of Michigan–Ann Arbor
University of Minnesota
University of Nebraska Medical Center
University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill

“Those are alphabetical, but they do guarantee that Michigan will be ranked among the top 10 in Engineering, Law and Medicine.”

I believe only Stanford can make this claim along with Michigan.

Yes, but Stanford is also in the top 10 (more like top 3) in Business too. Michigan’s MBA program has not been ranked among the top 10 according to the USNWR for several years. Stanford is also ranked among the top 3 in Engineering and Law. Let us face it, Stanford is in a league of its own! But Michigan is ranked among the top 10 in 3 of the 4 main professional programs, which is still very impressive.

So I’ve got these US News 2014 grad school rankings:

Engineering: Michigan #9
Law: Michigan #9
Medicine (research): Michigan #8
Medicine (primary care): Michigan #8
Business: Michigan #14

Econ: Michigan #13
Poli Sci: Michigan #4
Psych: Michigan #4
Soc: Michigan #4
History: Michigan #7
English: Michigan #13

Math: Michigan #8
Physics: Michigan #11
Chem: Michigan #16
Biology: Michigan #20
Computer Science: Michigan #13
Earth Science: Michigan #9

Social Work: Michigan #1
Public Health: Michigan #4
Pharmacy: Michigan #7
Nursing: Michigan #6

Public Affairs: Michigan #12

As usual, strong showing all around, and not much change from past years. It’s rare that Michigan has any program that isn’t in the top 20, and many are in the top 10 or, especially in the core social sciences, top 5.

One addition, USNWR ranks Statistics as well…
Michigan: #12

Out of curiosity, why does USNWR not rank subjects like Anthropology (Cultural and Evolutionary), Classics, French, German, Spanish, Philosophy, Religion, and Comparative Literature like the National Research Council does? These are all important areas of study offered by nearly every university so I’m not sure why USNWR neglects them. Besides, my alma mater happens to excel at all of them (except maybe Philosophy) so it would be nice to see them included. ;)

“Important”

NCAA Cover Athletes: #1
