Michigan in the latest grad schools rankings

Business
12th spot- ranked behind Harvard, Stanford, Penn, MIT, Northwestern, Chicago, Dartmouth, Berkeley, Columbia, NYU and UCLA

Law
9th spot- tied with Northwestern, ranked behind Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, NYU, Berkeley, Chicago and Penn

Medical
11th - tied with Columbia, ranked behind Harvard, JHU, WUSTL, Penn, UCSF, Duke, Washington, Stanford, UCLA and Yale

Engineering
9th - tied with Cornell, ranked behind MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, Gatech, UIUC, Caltech, CMU and USC (wow)

So is there any improvement?

Wasn’t it like #3 in business before (or at some point?)

Maybe it’s a different ranking. I don’t know. They seem to vary too much.

3 i think is Undergrad B school up there with ND i think - nice

what is your source?

I believe that is the 2009 USNWR Graduate Ranking. The 2010 ranking comes out tomorrow.

i was going off Business week - my bad though - UM ross undergrad is 4th this year, ND’s Mendoza is 2nd

For Business Week’s graduate business (MBA) ranking, Ross comes in 5th and Mendoza is back at 20th.

PW, I am pretty sure those are 2009 rankings. The 2010 rankings are coming out in 12 hours or so. Although it is too soon to see the effect, and its full impact will not be known for some time, the new Ross facility should improve its rankings by several spots. I would not be surprised to see Ross ranked between #5 and #7 in the USNWR in the next 3-4 years.

Ah my bad, I haven’t been following the US News ranking closely, didn’t know that it’s not the latest one.

2010 US News UMB 13, Law 9, Med 11 Research 12 Primary care, Eng 9, Education 14

They also updated social sciences
Econ 12
English 13
History 7
Poli sci 4
Psch 3
Soc 3

Source barrons? I thought the rankings won’t be out till tomorrow?

2010 book in front of me bought today at lunch. Trust me–I’m always right on these–ask Alex.

I see, thanks for posting… there isn’t much of a change then.

Ok the official ranking is out. It’s remarkable to see that Berkeley is pretty much excellent in everything.

The rankings haven’t changed much as far as Michigan is concerned. We either retained our previous ranking (Engineering, Law, Medicine, History and Sociology) or dropped one spot (Business, Economics, English, Political Science and Psychology).

Most of those rankings are spot on if you ask me. The only fields where Michigan is ranked slightly worse than it should be are in Business (Ross should be ranked between #5 and #8), Engineering (Michigan should at worst be ranked #9 but could be ranked as high as #5) and Law (Michigan should be ranked between #4 and #7). Also, #11 in Medicine is probably 2-4 spots too low.
