Great SAT.... not so much SAT IIs

Hi all! So on the March SAT, I got a 1580 but when I took my SAT subject tests in June, I got a 630 in Math 2 and a 650 in French. I would like to go to some top-tier schools (NYU and Georgetown currently top the list) but senior year is about to be underway and I will be extremely busy: year-round swimming, 6 APs, an officer of my Key Club. Will these scores make enough of a difference in the college admissions process that I should take the tests again? I do want to go into business, will my Math 2 make colleges look twice at my application? Do colleges look more at the SAT or the subject tests?

Retake the SAT2s - the scores you have now will hurt you.

Does Georgetown still require 3 subject tests?

I agree with the above. I know Georgetown wants subject test scores, not sure about NYU. I do suspect that you will harm your chances at GTown if you cant get the scores above 700. Having said that, find other schools to apply to, as GTown is a high reach for all.

If they want SAT 2’s, yes, they are going to care about them. If they don’t require or recommend SAT 2’s, don’t submit them.

GnocchiB, yes they do, I also took the Spanish subject test but I got a 760 on that one so I wasn’t considering taking it again.

You should be aware that Georgetown highly recommends three not just two subject tests, and if you do not submit three you are supppsed to explain in your application why you were unable to provide three (e.g., its recommendation for three may as well be considered a requirement unless your excuse is you are too poor to take any more). It also requires you to provide all tests you have taken, SAT, ACT and subject tests and thus you are prohibited from withholdoing those scores you already have. Also be aware that you need three subject tests for NYU if you plan to use subject tests for admission. NYU has a different test format from normal: you can submit SAT, or ACT, or three subject tests, or three AP’s. You choose which of those four options you will do. Moreover, if you choose three subject tests, one must be in math or science, one in literature or humanities, and one in the subject of your choice. As to importance, that varies among colleges that require or recommend subject tests, but for Georgetwon they can be quite important and for NYU they are critical if you choose to follow the three subject test option but otherwise mean little.
