I did 6 AP's last year and am taking 5 this year. it's definitely manageable.. my school doesn't really support AP curriculum b/c AP marks don't help you in Canada but we still manage pretty well on the exams. I ended up with three 5's, one 4 and two 3's on last years exams. will probably fail miserably this year b/c of the senioritis and lack of studying/work ethic

6 IBs this year and last year. (English HL, History HL, Theatre Arts HL, Physics SL, Math SL, German SL)

Several of my classes double as AP classes, and I have many friends taking the AP Calc test along with the IB Math test. Most of us took AP Lit last year, even though we had been in IB English (and did well too, I got a 4). Pure insanity is taking AP Govt as a sophomore though. Oh dear lord was that class difficult without having taken US History.

But yes, 4 AP's is nothing.

1 last year (world) - 4 :(

4 this year (apush, lang&comp, art history, chem), am expecting 5s in all but chem (i'll be lucky to get a 3!)

5 or 6 next year (lit, gov, bio, calc ab, japanese, and maybe psych... depends on if i can take film studies or not)

we have 7 class periods in a block schedule

One kid from my school took 14 AP tests his senior year.
Graduated with 28 5's and a single 4.

I'm taking 4-5 next year. I took 1 sophomore year and 3 this year.

10-World History-5
11-European History
11-English Language
11-Environmental Science
12-US History
12-US Government
12-Calc AB (maybe BC)
12-English Lit
12-Maybe French Language

I took three this year, because I had to beg to make my school let me take more than 2 (school rule is that it's only 2 per year unless you go through five zillion hoops.) Three was easily manageable for most of the year, excluding a couple of sucky days, so four couldn't be that much worse. Tell the counselor to shove it and have fun.

next year I will probably self study 1/2 take on a full course load of Regular classes(tiny school of 85 spread out from 5th grade all the way thru 12th what do u expect everyone in every grade is In the same grade as the other class and some parts of grades r combined for the slow Learning Disabled kids-IM in the normal LD/ADHD grouP-we have minor LDs..)and take 2 community college courses or go locally to a college for 2 courses(Cw post/Hofstra/Adelphi/Molloy..cw post b/c its close Molloy b/c my moms a soon to be senior in the sw program) I Feel so un cool

taking 3 aps now: Art history ( my passion), Biology, and stats.

My school has English, but i didnt feel ready for it

next year, i will take: Bc calc, chem, english, government, and french

Most kids take 6-7 throughout their highschool carrer

Wow...how do you people take so many AP/IB courses? My school only limits us to three APs and four at the most. Right now, I'm fighting to take six...so there's this little mini war going on between my counselor and me. It's at a stalemate right now...but I desperately want to take these courses..

get your parents involved. the school always backs down when parents get involved. trust me.

For IB, to get the diploma you have to take 6, plus TOK. So basically they can't limit you to 3 or 4. There is supposed to be a 7 class maximum (of any type of classes) in our school district, but because of kids doing full IB and taking Advanced dance or band, I know several people who took 8 classes junior and senior year (only the elective not being IB).

Even more insane is the guy I know who had 8 classes, but instead of having them during the 8 periods (we have the insane few zero and 7th periods at my school) he had a free 6th and two sevenths. He would go to one every other day. Of course TOK and band aren't that big of a deal to rotate. But still.

8 class courseload when 6 of the classes are IB is just not healthy.

I'm taking 6 this year. I was planning to take Comparative Government, but I found it really boring. I took 3 last year. I'm not sure how it looks, but I have a bunch next year too.

I was going for ap state scholar, but I realize life is more than about taking a ton of AP tests. I had a pretty good lead though at least for my school.

i took 5 sophomore year. got 4 5's and a 4.
cal ab:5
physics b:5
stat:5
us history:5
eng. lang.:4

i heard about some vietnamese guy (transfer student) in dallas that took 10 aps and got 5's and 4's
i wonder if any organization keeps track of the record. i'm sure the recordholder would have either (a) no life or (b) be pure genius. not saying no life in a bad way, but its inevitable that if you took 7+ aps, there would be almost no time for anything else.

if you get a 4 on an AP test, your pretty much out of the running for AP state scholar right?

since most likely someone would have gotten 5 on all the Ap tests they have taken

jason4444, I got a 4 on my AP Chemistry test and still got National AP Scholar.

One 4 certainly won't kill you, as long as you have a lot of APs and the others are 5's.

hmm im not sure I understand.

AP state scholar goes to the person who has a score of 3 or higher on the most AP's?

If there is a tie then it goes to the average score?

why is it easier to be a national scholar than a state scholar?

Um... It isn't.

I'm not exactly sure about the overlap, but considering I got both National AP Scholar and AP Scholar with Distinction, I'm assuming I did at least moderately well.

I don't remember the exact criteria, but it's basically more or less most APs with highest average AP scores.

The exact criteria doesn't really matter anyway. You can't exactly get more 5's by simply knowing the criteria.

Just as much as you can handle, as well as you can.

anyone know the amount of AP's and the average score of past AP state scholars?

1 last year comp sci,
3 now stat US english,
and 6 next year euro calcBC english spanish physics chem.
but i might be crazy
