Hey Guys! I will be attending Chapel Hill next year and I was wondering if anyone had any insight and life at Granville? Do most people tend to enjoy it? Hate it? Also, can you get a campus meal plan and an Agora meal plan? What is the social life like at Granville? I’ve heard the students there aren’t as friendly!
Along with Granville I was wondering how intense the Greek System is at Chapel Hill. I’ve heard it can be really difficult to get into one of the good sororities on campus. What can one do to “market” themselves better? Are the people in general nice in the Greek System?
Thanks!!
Hello! I’m a first year at UNC and I do not live in Granville, but I have visited a few times. I know that for some people, it is the only option they would consider for first-year housing. I’m not trying to stereotype, but statistically, the vast majority of Granville residents are wealthier white females, who are very interested in rushing and generally like to party (nothing wrong with that). I know girls who love it because they fit in well with that group, and girls who hate it.
I made the decision to live on south campus and I am so thrilled. I don’t know about the everyday life at Granville (there is a general stereotype that people at Granville are a little stuck up, but obviously that’s not true for everybody), but everybody on South Campus is so friendly, and I really feel like I’m in a great community. I go to great community events, I still go to frat parties on the weekends, and I have space/time for quiet studying as well.
With regard to Greek life, it’s really whatever you want it to be. If you chose to live at Granville, there will probably be more girls rushing than not. Living in HoJo, I know girls who rushed and pledged, girls who rushed and dropped out before bid day because it was too intense, girls who rushed and didn’t get bids, and girls (like me) who didn’t rush at all.
Within Greek Life, its just a fact that there are nice people and not nice people everywhere. I don’t know anything about the “good sororities” or how “marketing” works at all! Sorry!
