What is the reputation of the frats and sororities at GW?

At many schools Greek Life has a reputation for just being about partying and drinking, but according to what I heard at CI, Greeks at GW are more about service and other things. Is this just what they say or is it actually true?

That is sort of what they just say… Greek life is actually big at GW and depending on what fraternity/sorority you join, it can be more or less about partying, athletics, philanthropy events, networking, academics. I feel like most people would fit in at least one fraternity/sorority. As far as their reputations go people have their own strong opinions on that usually but Pike/Sig Ep are pretty much the top fraternities on campus and on the sorority side its a little less clear because they are all good at different things but probably ADPi, DG, KKG.

Definitely no harm to checking it out… you can always not accept a bid or even drop during pledging… But Greek Life is pretty popular at GW and relatively inexpensive compared to some schools and considering the price of GW overall it makes GW a lot more fun.

Are you a guy or a girl? The only thing that sucks about GW’s fraternity rush process is you pretty much have to narrow it down to two fraternities by the first invite night and you pretty much have to pick one by the last night b/c of the way it is set up. If you really like a house, I’d advise narrowing it down to two or three as soon as possible because the best and biggest houses have over 100+ people and it takes a ton of time to meet everyone and increase your chance of getting a bid. Sorority rush is a lot different and you get to meet every sorority without worrying about that so you’d be fine.

What service are you talking about? Other than the occasional service event and the fraternity/sorority philanthropies there isn’t a whole lot of service going on… Greeks spend most of their time doing things like working on mixers, philanthropies, formal, rush, sports and parties…
