I know nothing about phi delta theta, but fraternities like to have two separate houses, one where people can go and barf all over the place and one where they can actually live in a civilized manner.

Ccrunner please refrain from making comments about the greek system...you don't know what you're talking about
DEEBVEE-
1) Phi Delta Theta is a nationally dry fraternity, meaning they can not have parties at their. They have a senior house on state street for football pre parties. State street is the prime location for football saturday pre-game drinking. This is why Pike, Fiji, Dke last year, and yes, phi delt, (all fraternities not located on state street like Phi Psi, Chi Psi, Adphi, Sig Ep, and what was Beta) have brothers who have houses there. It helps with rush also.

2) Fraternities have separate houses because seniors do not usually live in. The fraternity house is where most registered, fraternity parties take place. From having experience living in one, I can tell you that it is by no means civilized. The senior houses are usually cleaner and more habitable (like mine).

Thanks confuseddude05! Very helpful. Do you, or others out there, know anything you can share about Lambda Phi? CCRunner123-your perspective is interesting, but it's all been heard before......

Just out of curiosity, what's the general reputation of Lambda Chi (LXA) around campus?

Any opinions about Zeta Psi. Haven't seen it mentioned on any of the posts.

Lambda Chi and Zeta Psi are smaller houses (around 30 guys I think) and do not have that big of a presence on campus. They both, however, have ridiculously nice houses that they keep clean. The guys I know in either house seem to be nice.

a few words on some more houses....

Psi U has been growing recently, with their pledge classes going from 13 to 17 to this year, 24. They seem to be gaining more and more recognition on campus as generally good guys who also know who to have a good time. However, I believe this year nearly all of their pledge class is Jewish and from the New York/NJ area, losing the diversity it generally is known for. Great house though with chill and not overblown pregames.

PiLamm is a relatively new house that has been growing pretty steadily and gaining more and more recognition.

On to the Jewish houses...

Sammy is a very nice group of guys who occasionally throw big parties. Although they are not known to excel in the female department, they have been steadily growing since its inception a few years back. Will likely become stronger and stronger with the leaving of ZBT and Delta Sig.

ZBT exists as an off campus house and is still nationally recognized despite not being recognized by the school. It almost did not have a pledge class this year since they didn't get enoguh kids to live in the house. However, they pulled it together and, barely, was able to manage.

Sig is known to be the stereotypical New York jappy house. Despite a strong pledge class this year, they seem to be falling apart. They currently do not have a single house, but rather two houses next to eachother. Additionally, they will probably lose those houses next year and are desparately looking for a new house for next year.

AEPi is the strongest Jewish house, if not one of the strongest houses overall on campus. They throw both big parties and have mixers with a different sorority every week, all of whom they are on good terms with. They throw the biggest welcome week party, Splash Bash, in addition to numerous throughout the year such as last weekend Pimps and Hoes party (my friends weren't even able to get in) to the party they seem to be promoting for this Devil thing at Necto tonight. With their prime location on Church and Hill, they have one of the bigger pregames. They also have one of the highest GPAs on campus in addition to a lot of community involvement. The only negative is that they are losing their house in two years. However, being that they are one of the strongest AEPi chapters nationally, their nationals are already looking for new permanent housing which shouldn't be a problem over the course of 2 years.

what about second semester rush? or is it stupid that you wait a semester...

If you have any inclination that you may want to join a Greek organization, I think it would be best to rush during the Fall. Things should be pretty slow for you anyways, and it is only an hour or two a couple nights during that week. Rushing Winter term isn't really a problem, but you won't get the whole experience. I think you'd be on better footing if you at least check out some houses during the Fall -- if you fall in love, you can go ahead for it. If not, go back around next term. Best to keep your options open I'd say.

That said, Winter rush is a bit slower, but certainly not abnormal or weird to partake in.

which frat is 'Sig'?

I don't know about at Michigan, but usually "Sigs" are Sigma Chis, at least that's what my friend referred to himself as.

as a member of the greek community....never call one of the brothers a "frat guy" or call his house a "frat house" they hate it...and im not sure what school you go to but DG is the BEST sorority nationwide...solid girls
