I'll be a transfer student at Cornell this fall and I'm wondering how greek parties go for people that aren't pledging. i know there are some new ifc rules that changed things. are most parties open? even during spring semester? also during oweek can you just walk into parties at the houses or do you have to be on a list or something? thanks!

There aren’t a ton of open parties, but most of them happen during fall semester and orientation week. Mostly during orientation, you can just walk in.

^there are a ton of open parties lol. Like 3 every weekend

There USED to be a ton of open parties-- now, with the new IFC rules, I doubt there will be nearly as many. There will still be a ton of house parties in CTown during Oweek, for which there are no “lists.” However, for greek annexes (which account for many of the ctown houses) will tell you that they are “at capacity” if they don’t know you. If you’re an attractive guy/girl, you probably won’t have much trouble getting in anywhere.

At this point, it’s not clear how parties will go down. Freshmen are probably going to be barred, and that group made up most of the population at open parties.

*If you’re a somewhat attractive girl, you probably won’t have much trouble getting in anywhere. *

Fixed for accuracy. Sad, but true in a lot of cases.

Yeah, I second Islander’s comment about being a slightly attractive GIRL, because for guys, they pretty much don’t want you there haha.

Thank you all for the advice! I really appreciate it

Oh and a quick question about ctown. When you mean there are parties in ctown do you mean at the rented house around campus? Sorry i’m still a bit unfamiliar

Yeah, mostly junior and seniors live in Ctown, and thats where all the parties during oweek happen.

Collegetown is the area immediately south of the campus (not a part of the campus, but rather Ithaca). It has an area with some businesses but it’s mostly residential.
