Greetings from NOLA

Great weekend, great people, great school and I got to use my windshield wipers (a lot).

Skiermom–how was Jacques Imo?
AZMustang-LOL

Back home. Just stripped his bed including the mattress pad. His room has never been so clean. Got a little choked up while taking off the pillow cases. How pathetic am I? On the bright side, I did hear from him and everything is “good.” Can’t wait to hear about the first day of classes.
BTW Vitrac, my hubby thought you were a riot and very funny. Thanks for organizing our Rum House get together.
Got to go put the blanket in the wash! :(

I’m still here. :P

Accidentally pocketed my son’s headphones last night so I had to meet up with him this morning when he was on his way to his first class. He seemed really, really happy (and I noticed he had used some Axe Body Spray… hmmmmm).

Ma-What’s next? Accidentally on purpose taking his underwear? Looking for an excuse to return stolen items?
Jozuko- Liked hanging with your husband too. Nice CC bunch we assembled.

D2 is commenting about all the reading she has to do already. Camp Tulane is over. Welcome to College.

It never ends. My D is a veteran, and she is complaining (mildly) about profs that keep adding to the book list at the last minute.

We ate at Jacques Imo on move-in day and absolutely loved it!

Shrimp creole and sweet potatoes at Jacques Imo’s mouthwatering! Snuck back in the area to check out Magazine St. and the very unNOLA-like Boulangerie (according to the next door neighbor) for a pain du chocolate and olive/tuna sandwich. I resisted all urges to go drag my son out of his dorm, but we’d already said goodbye the day before. I texted him tonight and he says he’s ready for sophomore year to begin. Hold your horses lets get through this one first. I think he really likes it. I agree with the end of the camp mode. He said I underestimate his sense of responsibility. Good luck all!!

Still here - visiting w/friends in the area + playing tourist. S is very happy though he thinks he is misplaced in Spanish - he’ll figure it out. Went to Dante’s Kitchen + Jacques Imo’s - quite good!

Wow, seems like yesterday that we were moving S2, now a senior, into his dorm. It goes fast folks, visit often, NOLA is a wonderful place, …oh and the school’s not bad either.

Wow, idad. I can’t believe he is a senior either. It does seem like yesterday we were trading posts and emails about the music opportunities and other topics. And thanks for continuing to post from time to time, it sounds like he has done really well at Tulane. Can you share what his plans are after graduation?

FC: I was thinking the same thing as I was writing. He has done very well at Tulane. He is a dean’s list student, did a great study abroad, plays in small combos from time-to-time and continues music lesson from Tulane faculty, and really loves the city. He is likely going to apply to grad programs, with Stanford and UChicago high on his list. He also co-founded an LLC this past year that is doing well and keeps him busy, along with his philosophy studies.

I believe I remember reading that your daughter will be graduating in 2014 as well, as a result of doing a full year studying in China. Is that the case? What is she planning?

She did indeed stay on since her DHS was still valid this year (she didn’t have to use it to pay for China, the Chinese government covered everything), but she will only use it for the fall semester as she finishes her honors thesis and takes some classes she always wanted to but couldn’t fit in before, including computer programming and Arabic. So technically she is also a 2014 grad, although circumstances will dictate if she can come back for the ceremony in May. She will graduate summa, I am obviously proud to say.

After December she is hoping to work for about 6-8 months in a position that utilizes her knowledge of China and Mandarin, then she will start grad school in the fall. Stanford is also one of the top 3 on her list, as is Berkeley. Not surprisingly they both have superior China Studies departments and programs.
