I know that I am worrying before I actually have to, but I would just like to hear some opinions on whether or not it would be worth appealing.
My dream school is UCLA and I unfortunately am missing the stats pre-req for my major, Political Science, because there is no equivalent course at my CC. However, I did take Statistics of Behavioral Sciences and that course meets the statistics requirement at UCI and UCD. I was wondering if I could use that fact as grounds for appeal if I get rejected by UCLA?

Dude. First of all, relax. It won’t be held against you. Doesn’t the stats requirement say that it has to be taken at UCLA?
Secondly - I would let them know that you would be more than willing to take it over the summer at UCLA.
But seriously, relax. You’ll be fine.
I’m a Political Science major as well, what statistics requirement are you talking about? On assist.org it says that STATS 10 must be completed at UCLA.
@Polemic I know it says that, but there are community colleges that offer the equivalent course, and I was actually waitlisted for a class that would meet the requirement at a community college about 30 miles from my home. I put this on my application and submitted the TAU with it on there. Once the deadline to get a spot came I removed it from my application and notified UCLA. I’m just worried that they’ll hold it against me. Oh April 22, come quickly, for I am driving myself crazy.
@goldencub I sort of noted that in my additional comments, so I’m hoping they’ll consider that and accept me.
I’m not a UCLA Political Science guru, but their website says
"Transfer Students
To be admitted as Political Science majors, transfer students with 90 or more units must complete the following introductory courses prior to admission to UCLA: one statistics course and four courses from political theory, world politics, political economy, American politics, or comparative politics."
They also list 4 different Stats courses that can be taken to meet the requirement. I don’t know which of those classes have equivalents at a CCC. But to me it sounds like having a stat class is going to be required to gain admission…
Lol relax man.
It would be a waste of your time if you did appeal, because if you happened to get denied (which I don’t think you won’t), it won’t be because you’re missing a pre-req that isn’t offered at your CC. The admissions office will tell you the same thing.
http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/transfer/preparation-paths/political-science-majors/index.html
“Note: The following courses count toward the major on some campuses and constitute sound preparation for the major on all UC campuses. Students can complete these courses after transfer without negatively affecting their competitiveness for admission.”
@2016Candles I’m hoping that they see that I DID take statistics, it just isn’t articulated to meet the STATS 10 at UCLA and take that into consideration.
@hdoan24 Are admissions people required to tell you why you were rejected?
@Mont2LA if you call and ask, they will tell you.
