GS Spring 2012 Applicants still waiting

@Ambi2012: Acceptance packets are sent via FedEx and rejection letters are sent via regular mail. Did they specify how they were sending your decision?

Congratulations, everyone! Can’t wait to meet y’all at meet & greets/orientation!

If you haven’t already heard, after the APS they’ll want you to schedule a meeting with your advisor and put together a schedule for the semester. If you can start thinking/researching what classes you’re interested in now you’ll be ahead of the game. You’ll all be required to take University Writing, and some will be required to take University Studies.

For the rest of the classes you can find class schedules at [CU Directory of Classes](CU Directory of Classes). Descriptions are at [Courses | General Studies<a href=“or%20the%20CC%20version%20with%20the%20same%20content,%20which%20I%20find%20easier%20to%20use,%20%5Burl=Columbia College Bulletin < Columbia College | Columbia University”>/url. Reviews of professors are at [url=<a href=“http://culpa.info%5DCULPA”>http://culpa.info]CULPA - Columbia Underground Listing of Professor Ability](http://www.gs.columbia.edu/courses), Columbia’s unofficial version of RateMyProfessor. Be sure to pass it along to other new students who haven’t heard of it, because it can be super helpful.

Good luck, and kick ass!

@CKlim05-thanks for the info. They said it was mailed yesterday and I will most likely receive it on Saturday. I’m trying to remain optimistic but if anything I’ll probably reapply in the Fall

I’m hoping to post some good news later this week.
Congrats to those that have been accepted!

@iggs99988 - Thanks
@hpolanco21 - Thanks

i’m officially feeling as though i’ve lost my mind. it’s official

I want to be an admissions officer instead of a doctor. I would be amazing!

:/ … They did send me an e-mail on Wednesday saying that they were reviewing my file… (i think i’m going cRaZyyyy)

I tried to be patient. and I was- I still am- being very, very, very, very patient.
You know what this might be like? It might be a bit like when you tell a puppy to stay and they’re staying seated but their entire body is about to explode with energy into the next moment… (see? I’ve gone mad…)

While overall I feel my interview went well, we touched on areas I truly wished to not to highlight in my history, academic and professionally.

I was hoping to talk about what I would contribute, and why Columbia is for me. However sub par academic past, and a questionable military history were discussed. I was dreadfully honest.

I was notified decisions would be made by the end of the week, so for those us still awaiting a response…there is still hope.

Once again, congrats to all the superstars that have been accepted, and to those that tried.

The power of what your life will be is under your control…those are words from my father I received today that are worth sharing.

Best,
ThaiTB

Hi All –

Question – after the APS, will I be assigned an advisor promptly and be able to register for classes? Or do I need to be proactive and try to find a way to schedule a meeting with an advisor after the APS through the office of the dean?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Adam

AMGAMG, this is how it worked for me last year:
At the end of the APS you will be assigned a bit of “homework:” to create a few possible course schedules for the upcoming semester. You will also be assigned your advisor and be required to schedule an appointment with her or him, in order to assess your schedules, finalize one, and register your classes. Your advisor might even be present at the APS, in which case you’ll be able to schedule the necessary advising appointment then and there. Students who were assigned an advisor who was not present at the APS (there might have only been one advisor missing at mine, can’t quite remember) were told to call the office ASAP and schedule their advising appointments.

TL;DR: Go to the APS. They’ll guide you to your next steps.

At the APS you’ll be assigned an advisor. Immediately after you can make an appointment with the adviser by walking across the hall. Many people can/do make one for the next day.

Between APS and your appointment you’ll need to come up with three schedules. Then when you meet with the adviser they’ll help you figure out what classes it really makes sense for you to take, and help you register for them.

They’ll show you in the APS, but you can use the course directory ([CU Directory of Classes](CU Directory of Classes)), course bulletin (I prefer the columbia college version, same info though [Columbia College Bulletin | Columbia College](<a href=“Columbia College Bulletin < Columbia College | Columbia University”>Columbia College Bulletin < Columbia College | Columbia University)), and culpa.info (for professor reviews) to figure out what classes you want to take. One will be university writing. You shouldn’t take more than 4 total.

Good luck, and ask any questions you have in the meet & greet after APS. Along with lots of other continuing students I’ll be at many of them.

@Thai I like “the power of what your life will be is under your control”

It’s comforting. I’m tweeting and tumbling it

still no news- and my news has been delivered for today. I’ll call if I still don’t here by the end of Thursday

I was told that my admission decision would be mailed out tomorrow - and just checked the financial aid website and I could log-in; however, I cannot see any information besides a disclaimer. There is no financial aid information once I log-in (break down of loans, scholarships, grants, etc.). What does this mean?

If you read through these recent threads you will learn that good things come to those who are able to log into the financial aid website.

Yeah, but I do not see any tabs, just this discloser:

Welcome xxxxxx!

Columbia University’s educational financing options consist of federal, state, institutional and private sources of funds that will help meet the diverse needs of the student population. Columbia recognizes the importance of choices in educational financing and hopes that the options provided will be useful in planning and managing educational expenses.

Before you and your family begin to explore these options, we ask that you read the disclosure below regarding the suggested lenders featured on this website.

Please note: If you receive financial aid, you are required to notify your school’s Financial Aid Office upon receiving any funds that you did not report on the original financial aid application, such as University tuition exemption, scolarships, tuition reimbursement from your employer, or sponsorship.

Disclosure on Lender Information:

…"

That’s it, but no access to anything else. On the top, there is only a “Home,” tab. Maybe I’m a bit freaked, haha

Oh, and reason I’m freaked is because same thing happened with UCLA last semester when I applied. I was able to log into financial aid, but was eventually denied admission.

stop worrying and celebrate; you’re in.

I’m in!!!

Congrats Thai! To USMC, you’re pretty much in…that’s what happened to me and I got accepted. Premed, keep your hopes high. Tomorrow is the deadline, so if you’ve gone through the interview this close to the deadline, it is because they feel that you’re a candidate. I’m sure you will receive a letter of acceptance.

Congrats ThaiTB!

Thanks hpolanco21 and jcakez!
