i know its technically in DC but how far is gtown from lets say the capitol/washington mall area. im wondering cuz i want to get an internship there if i go

It’s as close to the action as you could possibly get, literally (:
Maybe a 5-10 minute bus ride.

The distance is basically nonexistent.

I wouldn’t say its literally as close as you can get (if that’s what you want, then GWU is the place for you). But nevertheless, it’s pretty darn close.

how many metro stops is it?

There’s no metro stop here in Georgetown. To get on the Metro, you have to walk approximately one mile across the river to the Rosslyn, VA stop. To get from there to the Smithsonian stop, for one, is then six stops. The whole trip from my dorm to the National Mall is about 40 minutes depending upon traffic on the trains.

GU is literally two miles (20 city blocks) from the White House, Lincoln Memorial (30 min by foot, or a short $6 cab ride). So if you are walking to Rosslyn to get on a metro that takes you downtown, you may as well save the metro fare and walk the extra 15 minutes or just share a cab with friends. If you are a runner, there is a nice 3-4 mile loop that takes you from GU to Lincoln across the memorial bridge to arlington and then back to GU.

GU is also a 15 minute drive to the Capitol which is at the opposite end of the mall.

If you are averse to walking and traveling below ground take the circulator for $1. This is DC’s best kept secret.

For nightlife. GU is in the historic Georgetown neighborhood. So there is really no need to go anywhere else at night because there is a ton to do just a couple of blocks off campus.

The other night life areas include Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle, Chinatown, and K Street. These are all short cab or circulator rides away. The Mall has nothing at all going on after the sun goes down, except for the memorials of course.
