I’d suggest looking over the actual LOR template and seeing who is best to fill out the letter. If you search “Gateway couselor letter,” you will find the PDF. Not sure if/how to do the same for the SAO. The guidance counselor may be best by job description, but you do NOT want a letter from someone who is writing it after having their arm twisted to do so. A principal, assistant principal or other administrative role with a 10k-foot perspective of you will likely do the job. In my son’s case, he had no guidance counselor, his principal was in the process of being removed (appropriately), and his assistant principal barely knew him. He had his home room teacher write that letter, as he served in that role for years and knew my son very well and from a similar administrative perspective.
@Altras I’ll think about that, but we don’t have home room or anything like that- I like kinda know the assistant principal and worked with her but she doesn’t know my name. My dad knew my principal in high school and they hated each other and also the principal doesn’t write recs for anyone so I’m not sure if I should ask him lol- I’ll go over the template and see if anyone I know fits.
@CavsFan2003 What I’m asking is: Is this person a guidance counselor, a college counselor, or both?
Also: Do you know if he is new?
@coppii Both, they fill both positions at my school. And no, he’s been here for like 10 years, I think
Hmm… I’m not sure then. That is peculiar. I’d listen to what others have said and let your dad handle it. Hopefully, they have a little more respect for an adult. Good luck!
@coppii Thank you!
Maybe the guidance counselor is a GS Warriors fan:)
@Nocreativity1 LOL honestly wouldn’t blame him if so
