Guns Germs and Steel

Has anyone read Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond?

If so, can you give a short summary of what kinds of things he talks about? Like are there any recurring themes?

I have an assignment due tomorrow (not these questions, I have to respond to a couple of quotations).

Thanks :).

If you haven't read don't pick Guns Germs & Steel to BS on. The Pine Barrens would be a good one to pick a random quote from. So would We Wish to inform you that tomorrow....... I read those two + Guns, Germs & Steel and GGS was the hardest to write about. And I actually read it...

Dude which school do you go to? North or South? You never told me.

And I read On Liberty - which is REALLY easy to BS - and Longitudes and Attitudes - which is just really good overall.

South....no walls....it's a beautiful thing :)

I've read it.

It's basically answer's Yali's Question, that is (in essence) "Why do whites have so much when natives have so little?"

It explores many areas of technology, domesticated animals, crops, racial differences, etc. but comes to the conclusion that *the "dominance" of Asian and White societies is due to the Horizontal nature of trade, where crops, animals, etc. could live better in similar climates *. This contrasts with Africa, The Americas, etc. because (apparently) trade is done in a Vertical manner.

I hope that helps!
