do you guys suggest we bring them for the fall semester? when will we need them? when's the soonest dance?

Most schools don't have dances...fraternities and sororities will have formals but those are usually closer to the end of first semester or into second (at least in my experience and encounters with Greeks from across the country).

If you plan on joining a fraternity you will need one before rush is over, as at most places bid night is a formal event. Even if it's not, then sometime soon you'll need one as a fraternity man.

If you aren't in a fraternity, then I'd still reccomend bringing one from day one. You never know what organization you might interview for and how formal the dress requirements might be. It's better to be prepared.

If you intern in a profesional-type office, do debate, or mock trial you'll need a suit.

Well I'm a going to a business school so I'll definitely need it for presentations, trips, etc. Plus Al Gore is speaking at my university soon and a suit is appropriate for the event.

just bring one anyway. Bertter to have and not need, than need and not have.

you may not need a suit per se, but you definitely need a sport jacket, tie, and khakis at least

bigredmed gave sound advice.

as iwannabe_Brown mentioned, you might want clothes along those lines, for high profile speakers or nicer school events.

man bear pig

bring enough for an interview (suit, slacks, dress shirt, tie, dress shoes). it's not just for the social events but also for the professional ones too.

I plan on buying several cheap suits (like maybe 20-25). I will then proceed to wear one each day, and just keep a one month rotation going.

Buying a suit for me is like looking for a needle in the middle of a hay field...I can never find the right size. :-(

you sure dont need a suit to watch al gore speak, hes a joke

SBR: What size(about) do you wear?

Well, I'm considered small for my age so my approximate sizes:

Pants: 29/29
Jacket: 32 short
dress shirt: 15 32/34

Not exactly the easiest sizes to shop for at the local Kohls or JCPennies...:D

The dress shirt should be easy enough. Do you mean 32/33? I wear an 18 (My neck is huge, get over it) 34/35.

The jacket you'd probably have to go to somewhere like Marshall Field's or somewhere with a large amount of suits. I'm on the other end - I wear a 48R jacket.

Yeah I meant a 32/33, I actually got one today, now all I need are pants and jacket haha. Maybe some other time, cuz I just exceeded my monthly quota of endurable shopping...

haha SBR, i'm about the same size, i ended up goign to hong kong and getting a suit there =D

Yes, bring a suit! Dances, debate, choir, interviews for jobs you didn't know you wanted, lobbying at the State House, whatever. You'll be glad you did.

My times have changed. We had a guy who didn't wear shoes...in Wisconsin...in January.

SBR, you know you could buy a suit that is a little too big and just have it tailored right?
