Clothes question for Bro's

Fellas...is there any reason to bring a sport coat / suit as a freshman at a non urban LAC, I'm not a music performance major where I might be required to have a suit or sport coat...are there typically receptions etc. where if i didnt have a jacket i might seem like a shlub?

I doubt you'll ever need it.

Come on guys...sophomores, juniors...do i need a coat and tie for anything? special lecture, concert, dinner with lady professor ?? (yeah right...)

You should really look to see if there are threads already on this topic before making a new thread.

That thread is on the first page of the thread listing. It couldn't have been too hard to find.

If you have one I would recommend bringing it. It doesnt take up much room and it may come in handy. Especially if you plan on joining any clubs where it may be handy (i.e. political club events)

if u want to rush, then yeah you need.

Hey....some cutie might invite you home to the family in which case you won't want to show up without a jacket for Sun brunch at the club!! Always take a jacket....you WILL find a place to wear it if you have it. Always have a white shirt in a bag....you will find a place to wear that too. It could be as simple as a memorial service you didn't plan on.

man I wear a sports coat or suit at least 2-3 times per week. I think I have one sports coat in every color at school: blue, black, grey, beige, cream, & then of course stripped seersucker...

I guess we are not the norm......I cannot imagine being at school or on a trip w/o a coat.....wouldn't do it. Of course if the only shoes one has is sport sneakers then you would need one more item to pack also.

good advice guys....case closed...no pink shirts tho...whew did yu check that thread????

No more discussion on pink shirts due to some junior poster who lost his cool.

its good to have one nice jacket and pair of shoes. you never know what event might come up where you'll need them

I would not think of going anywhere without at least two suits, a few sports coats, and several pairs of dress slacks or trousers. Also, a tuxedo will come in handy.

For some reason, the gentleman's art of presenting himself has vanished. I prefer 100% worsted to polyester and patent leather any day of the week.

As hazmat said, if you were to visit a girl's (or anyone's for that matter) family, you would most certainly want to show up properly dressed. Where I come from, "properly dressed" means at the minimun a dinner jacket.

bern, nice call on the seersucker. Never vacation without it.

P.S. Don't forget accessories. i.e. ties, ties, ties. Also, braces are a lost jewel.

ah braces, why is it that the days when a gentleman used to dress up are gone. Monogrammed shirts, cuff links, braces, ties, etc. I agree IvyH20, at school i have 3 suits, a tuxedo, 5-6 sport coats/dinner jackets, etc.

Most of the worthwhile social events at penn require a sports coat, at minimum.

Every time I buy a pair of slacks, I ask for braces buttons in alterations. The older gentlemen are amazed that there are still those of us in the world who appreciate how gentlemen dress.
