I wouldn't comment on the internship hunt if you haven't been through it. Some impressions are warrented - Yes, White House internships are competitive, but you cannot restrict yourself to believe that you MUST get that internships or else your GW experience will be crap. In fact, there are offices of various Congressional representatives who are seeking interns regardless of home state. It's an advantage as an applicant to apply to your own congressperson's office, but I know TONS of people who intern for other state's congressional reps.

Think outside the box in terms of internships. You'd be surprised of the different array of internships that are available. Think tanks, NGOs, DC government, business's government affairs offices, non-profits, etc.

You have every right to feel the way you do, especially in terms of finances and paying for GW. If GW is your "dream school," you'll find a way to make it happen. GW offers $7,500 for transfer students affliated in honors program and offers $12,000 for continuing students who get a 3.7 after 30 credits.

If undergrad doesn't work out, there's always grad school...

Thanks for all the replies, everyone. I definetely want to intern in Washington.. not necessarily with my rep, maybe at the EPA or with a non-gov group. Who knows.

GWCurrent, let me think of some specific q's and I'll def email you. Thanks!

"i will agree though that it is relatively easy to get an internship within your representative while going to school in dc---but the very prestigous internships---the ones that might be worth the 52k a year--are a crapshoot when it comes to actually getting one like hayden said-----and yes i am bitter against GW----because i love dc and the school's atmosphere/vibes-----but as far as what is most affordable i feel like a school picked me instead of me picking the school--which most likely would've been GW- i just can't stomach the ludicrous cost- i think it would be worse if i did go and perhaps didn't have such a great experience--talk about being bitter my parents would be too-----i just feel like i'm putting too much on line with GW"

i feel your pain...there are plenty times that i realize that G-Dub isn't worth 52G's.

what a coincidence :P

i got into GWU, BU, and NYU as well.

however, i chose GWU because i got elliot + women's leadership program + 1/2 tuition scholarship

for me, GW comes before BU because i really like DC and the GW environment. in the previous posts, someone mentioned that BU's IR program isnt as strong. however, a BU representative came to our school and talked to us about their IR program. It seems like a really well-rounded program with wonderful professors and internship opportunities. they even invite ex-presidents or politicians of various countries to symposiums and seminars. better yet, for a period of time, i think these politicans live at the campus and work with the students.
