GW Scholarship Finalists

I got my finalist letter today, so I'm very happy and can't wait to visit W and L. Anyone else get good (or bad) news?

I got a letter stating that I was a finalist for a regional scholarship, does anyone know if this still means that I get to come for the three days?

No, regional finalists are interviewed locally (although it is possible to be both a regional finalist and a GWHS finalist and in that case you get to come down)

How is this for the roller coaster called senior year- Saturday my daughter finds out that she is a Presidential Scholars Candidate (top 20 girls this year in our state) today she finds out that W&L does not want her as a finalist. Good luck to you all during your interviews! She can't wait to be there next fall. W&L has been her first choice from the moment she stepped foot on campus last summer. I hope that you have wonderful weather for your interview days. Well now she needs to get writing six more essays. It only looks like she can reuse one of the essays she wrote for her apps. Good Luck everyone!

Thanks for the information Dima, I also emailed W&L and found out the information that I wanted. I am not GWHS finalist, however, I am one of four finalists for two full tuition Baltimore Area Scholarships, so truthfully this may turn out better than GWHS for me. Is anyone familiar with the interview process for regional scholarships?

Good luck bmulez! 50% chance!

thanks midwest, good luck to your daughter in Presidential Scholars

Yeah, that's a big surpirse, midwest. Congrats bmulez, good luck with the scholarship...So I won't be seeing anyone from CC on Feb. 27?

Few ED kids get GWHS. I know of two, maybe? The scholarships are really meant to lure in kids who would go elsewhere (ivies, etc.) if W&L was full price. I am here on full tuition, and I can honestly say that I would have gone elsewhere if I had not received my scholarship.

I stayed in contact with a bunch of the kids I met at the scholarship competition, and the ones who didn't end up at W&L are at Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Stanford, etc., or are on scholarships at schools like Wake and Vandy, etc.

youll see me ;)

My daughter was not even aware of this school till she received an invitation to apply for the Heinz scholarship. We researched the school and the fact we are in California and have limited resources she has not seen the school yet. She did apply by the deadline and also applied for the George Washington one also. Well she received a letter today stating that she did not receive the scholarship for George Washington abut they would notify her in April if she receives the Heinz. This seems really strange. She also has applied at columbia and Yale back east so maybe she will get in. She was disappointed on this first round but maybe she will get the heinz. I imangine they do not give more than one scholarship. Good luck and congratulations to those who got scholarships.

Actually there are a few Heinz scholarships given out every year so she definitely has a shot, especially since the applicant pool is limited. Best of luck to her!

I will be there. What kind of "casual clothes" are people bringing?

i'm not sure if i'm a finalist or not. i applied for the scholarship, but haven't heard anything about it... until today, when i got an e-mail saying i haven't registered for the GW competition yet and need to make travel arrangements.

i e-mailed them to check if it was a mistake or something. i hope they e-mail me back soon. an all-expenses paid trip and the possibility of a big scholarship would be sweet.

Dima (or anyone else who knows),
Not sure if you know enough to answer this but the Regional Scholarships (once it is narrowed down to finalists), are they based solely on the interviews and does the admissions office decide who gets them or is it the local alumni? The reason I'm asking this is because my second quarter grades and thus my mid year report are below how I usually perform (they're not awful though). Obviously this isn't a positive thing but will it affect the scholarship process? Thanks

D had been waiting to hear about scholarships. Email arrived yesterday saying she needed to send mid year grades and SAT II's! She forgot to send them the SAT II's! 1460 SAT, 4.0 (uw)GPA, 9 AP's, crazy ec's and no hope of attending W&L. She needs merit money, oh well.....................
