did anyone else apply, and do you have any idea when finalists will be announced?

I applied (well, last year) and was an Honors Scholar and would love to answer any questions you may have. I believe you should get notification as to whether you are a finalist next week.

I will probably be hosting a finalist (a guy - and a friend of mine will probably be hosting a girl) and will get to meet you all, if you are selected, at some point. I am looking forward to this year's class getting to campus on the 28th.

I should add one more thing, at least last year, honor scholarship fnialists didnt hear until ED2 people did, so wait until those decisions are up on the board first and then expect notification a few days later.

I got my letter in the mail yesterday. Unfortunately, I wasn't invited. It said they had over 900 applicants for the honor scholarships this year.

I didn't get it either.

I was wrong, honors scholarship letters were sent out early this week so you should have gotten them by now and if not will get them early next week.

Close to 1,000 self-selecting applicants applied for the GWHS this year and only about 100 are invited - so don't get too down if you are not and don't worry about not getting in, Honors Scholars really are the creme de la creme.

PS: Those asking about ED2 notification, you should get those early next week.

Congratulations in advance to the lucky few and I will see you in late Feb (Honors Scholars) or September (ED2).

Got it this afternoon!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited and can't wait to see the campus!

I made it as well and am very excited. I really wanted to visit before but couldn't afford it. Unfortunately, the campus probably won't be as pretty in February, but I am looking forward to meeting the other students and discovering the atmosphere of the college itself. Does anyone know how the competition/interviews are conducted? I am sort of nervous about that part.

Congrats guys, I'll see you in late February (I may even be your host ;) )

Anyway, I was an Honors Scholars last year. Typing out the whole competition would take too long, especially since you will be getting more info later, but if you have any specific questions - ask away.

i got my letter today- i'm a finalist! i am SO excited!

Congrats buckeyenation, kilo33, ellemae88, and any others that get invited! Good luck in the competition.

I can guarantee y'all one thing: it's gonna be the time of your life if you get into it!

Oh and correction to my last post - I was an Honors Scholar not an Honors Scholars since I am, sadly, only one man.

I didn't get it...o well. Two others I know were rejected as well, sounds like it was pretty tough this year.

Dima, do you think ED1 applicants are actually hurt in the scholarship process? It seems the GW is meant to be a tool to get the best to commit to W and L...but if an applicant is already committed to a binding decision, why offer a scholarship?

no i dont think so, I was an ED1 Honors Scholar - and so was Elissa.

D is a very excited finalist. Found out Friday!

I have a question... If you are selected for an award, when do they notify you? In Lexington? A couple of weeks later? Thanks in advance...

wtets-- Last year there were only four ED applicants who were selected for the GWHS... interpret that for yourself.

Woooooow...if that statistic is correct I'd say that is pretty telling. Are you sure of that?

Ask Dima; he had mentioned it on the board last year after he attended the GWHS competition. I got in EDII last year and did not get selected for GWHS just in case you wanted to know.

Four sounds about right - BUT in general ED applicants are on much more solid ground financially than RD applicants. Also, ED applicants tend to consider W&L a reach school and are using ED to try to give them that extra boost. The GWHS finalists usually go ED to schools like Ivy's, if anywhere at all, so it is quite self-selecting. Remember, correlation does not imply causation.

Buckeyenation - you find out by mail about a month later
