Hi everyone, this is my first post on cc and I am trying to decide between these three schools for undergrad business. Gw gave me 27,000, Umass-Amherst (out-of-state) gave me 6,000, and Bentley gave me 20,000. I need to decide by May 1st and I need some suggestions. I really liked GW but I don’t know how good their business program is. I also liked Umass but I got into the pre-business program and I am currently enrolled as a Hospitality and Tourism Management major. I would need to take the required classes to be admitted as a BBA student into the Isenberg School of Business. I have not visited Bentley yet, (I am visiting tomorrow) but I am afraid that if I go there and end up not liking business, it will be impossible to change since Bentley is mostly a business school. Any suggestions would help out. Please help!
&gzliar If you are not sure about undergrad business you may not want to select Bentley. Although it’s the highest rated of the three (#10 vs 33 (Isenberg) vs #54 (GW)) in Bloomberg business week’s recent 2016 rankings of undergrad business schools, if you decide against majoring in business you would need to transfer from Bentley. If you try it for a year and decide to transfer you will have lost out on the aid offered now by UMass and GW. It’s probably better to pick either UMass or GW where you have other options if you decide against business. You say you are not a direct admit into Isenberg. I don’t know how easy it will be to transfer into the school. I’d pick GW if you were admitted as a direct admit to the business school. I assume total cost of attendance of GW with $27k in aid and UMass with $6k in aid are about equal. If not, you and your family will have to decide if GW is affordable at the extra cost. I believe GW freezes tuition and room and board for all 4 years, whereas UMass may increase tuition each year, esp if you are Outof state. This should also weigh in your decision. Good luck!
How uncertain are you about majoring in business?
Rather than listing scholarships, can you list net price*?
(A 30K scholarship at a 65K school is worth less than a 10K scholarship at a 25K school, for instance.)
- net price = (schoalrship+fees+room+board) - (scholarships+grants)
