So I’ve decided that tomorrow morning I am calling the admissions office. I can’t wait till after the mail arrives either, since it arrives here around 4 or 5pm EST, when the office is closed.

My evil plan (mwahahaha!)…ahem…is to ask them not whether I’ve been admitted, but whether an applicant would have access to GWeb prior to being admitted. Maybe they will answer that instead. (mwahahaha…) I mean… really? What are they going to do? Rescind my acceptence for excessive sneakiness?

Here’s to hoping…I’ll report back here the results of my evil plan around 10am EST (1000hrs for us military folk ;)

PS- I already tried emailing the same question to the Student Technology Service just in case they’d let it slip…no answer back yet…

I feel so bad for all of you waiting so eagerly and patiently for a response by GW. In my mind this is really cruel and unusual punishment, and I see no reason why they could not give you the results by now. It is hard to believe they aren’t more sympathetic to your plight this late into the game. Best of luck to all of you!

Conflicting responses, although I tend to lean towards the STS response, as the verbage was very confident and straightforward, whereas the random girl who answered the phone in admissions said, “Information system? GWeb? oh…ummm…if you have a GWID you should be able to access it…” Thanks… The STS emails went this way, though:

My Question:
Sir/Ma’am,

When are applicants permitted access to GWeb Info? Are we permitted access throughout the application process, or only once we are admitted? Thank you.

Respectfully,
Me

STS Response:
Hello,

Applicants will gain access to the GWeb Information System after the University offers them admission if they apply for financial aids. They will be able to review the financial aids offers before accepting the admission. Those without financial aids will only be able to access the system after they mail in the Declaration of Intent and the deposit.

Sincerely,
STS

@Kulakai - did you apply for FA? If not, maybe thats why you can’t access it?

ok kitncat I love you… In my experience you should always trust the help desk guys versus some random admission person this is good news. So that means that we have a good chance we got accepted… Sweet good news is what i want right now.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted, and I hope all the best to those who are still waiting… I received the acceptance letter via mail last week and am very happy. Now I have a general question for anyone to answer regarding transferring credit. For the classes that I took at my previous university… do the actual grades (B, B+, A etc.) that I received in those particular classes transfer over and affect my new GW GPA? or will I start GW with a completely new GPA? Will the classes that transfer say the actual grade I had in that particular class my GW transcript ? or will it just say “TR”… Appreciate it.

Every grade from A through F has a quality point equivalent (QPE), which is used to determine the grade-point average (GPA), ranging from 4.0 for an A to 0.0 for an F. Courses marked CR, I, IPG, P, NP, W, or Z are not considered in determining the GPA. With the exception of courses taken through the Consortium (LINK) courses taken at other institutions are not used in computing the GPA. The GPA is obtained by dividing the total quality points by the total number of credit hours attempted.

Generally you start over with a new GPA and your transfer gpa is used when calculating honors for graduation. This is why they all just say TR on the transfer credit analysis.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but I would be surprised if GW transferred the letter grade over to your GW transcript as well as that isn’t the standard practice from what I’ve read.

My understanding is that you basically start over with a new GPA, so your previous GPA is not factored in at GW. It wouldn’t make sense for it to anyway, as different schools calculate GPAs differently. (While an A- might be a 4.0 at one school, it is like a 3.8 at UCs)

Be aware, however, that when applying to grad school, they often ask for both your transcript from GW as well as a transcript from your current / past school…basically anywhere you took any classes that might apply toward your undergrad.

"A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 is required for graduation. Your transferred courses do not factor into your GPA, but please be aware that graduate schools often request transcripts from all institutions that you’ve attended. "

I assume this is true for the entire university…

I am so proud of our thread! No question or curiosity has gone unanswered! We will make a great community at GW…once we get our official acceptances…grrr

I concur with PinkMingo thats what they usually do for transfer credits however when they transfer they might just transfer as electives thats what happened to me at my school i attended this past year. I have about 110 credits and about 40 of them are electives and electives gets you nothing but taking more classes, but its the price you pay to transfer to another college. QUICK UPDATE I called admissions today because I have no letter today. I opened the mail box and got really excited when I saw to big envelopes turns out they were things from the bank I felt jipted, but I spoke to admissions today and they said that the decisions letters are being sent out on a rolling basis and that due to the long weekend my letter should be there tomorrow or at the very latest Saturday. They did apologize about the long wait though and was empathetic about the fact about making decisions for schools to attend I said thanks. I mentioned about gw web and they said that they did not know anything about gw web access. So I guess I’ll wait another day…

WillGW - you used the present tense on that…"but I spoke to admissions today and they said that the decisions letters *are being sent out on *a rolling basis and that due to the long weekend my letter should be there tomorrow or at the very latest Saturday. "

Does that imply they are STILL sending out letters?? As in, they didn’t all get in the mail last week??? Ohhhhh that would make me so upset.

Kitnkat do you have anything under financial aid on gw web I found out something possibly important so if you go to my eligibility and then go to academic process it says last term reviewed fall of 2010 and the one i have for the school I have been going to for the past year mine says last term spring of 2009 which was my last term there and it also says on both Expected enrollment on the award letter overview… wait ugh I just thought of something…can you believe we are going to these measures to find out if we got in or not lmao I WANT MY LETTER LOL

@WillGW - I know what you mean…that thought has gone through my head several times…you know we won’t be satisfied until we get that official decision in the mail…and yet we still search through that damn info system like a PDF version of our acceptance letter is hiding in there…

psstt…but yeah I noticed the same thing…the wording of “expected enrollment- Full Time” ups my heart rate a tiny bit as does the response from the STS…

I am considering contacting the VA office at GW and explaining to them the circumstances and whats at stake…ie space in the YRP, the amount of time it takes to process the paperwork if I’m accepted…all that fun stuff…maybe they could get me an answer? Although I don’t want to come off like I am special or something and deserve an answer before everyone else…I just want one now like everyone else!

and no - I don’t have any awards under FA. However, there is a list of requirements - things they still need to process my FA like signed tax forms…maybe if I call the FA office they might let something slip…

Hmm interesting… You could do that I like the idea of calling financial aid because they they would be able to see what forms you need to get to them. I have something under my requirements as well… wouldn’t it be funny if we both got our letters on the same day I mean tomorrow lol

When and how can I view my financial aid award?

Applicants who have been notified of their admission to the University, as well as currently enrolled students, may view their financial aid awards under the Financial Aid Section on the GWeb Information System.

Called Financial Aid…MAN I swear I almost had her spill the beans…I opened the conversation with questions about the documents my GWeb Info said I needed to submit. She clarified a few…laughed that they had asked for my selective service registration, since I’m a female…and then I hit her with the question, “So, I haven’t received my admissions decision in the mail yet, but I can see all this information on my financial aid status…what does that mean? Should I wait to submit the documents until I have a packet in my hand?” and she just sort of went quiet…and said she couldn’t really answer anything on that… She said she is forwarding my specific questions on my financial aid package to a counselor, though, and she gave me the number to admissions to inquire about my admissions status.

So, I tried the angle with the admissions department that the financial aid folks had sent me their way for more information on my status (which is technically true)…and the girl asked for my ID number…and then said she didn’t know what the decision was, but that they had received all the documents necessary to make a decision and that I should be receiving it soon.

She DID say that they had sent the decisions out last week on a rolling basis…hopefully that means they *all *were sent last week on a rolling basis - perhaps a combination of your last name and the date you applied? who knows the method behind the madness…

There was an update to my financial aid status on Jun 1st - they received my “Official Expected Family Contribution from Federal Govt”
