Gym at UCI

Is there a gym at UCI? Free? Open to public use? Open to... incoming freshmen who want to work out for free during the summer? lol.

Yes there is a big gym, located in the ARC. http://www.campusrec.uci.edu/arc/index.asp

You pay a required fee for it with all your tuition and stuff. You just have to bring your student ID and they let you in. You probly wont be able to use it for free this summer b/c you wont have paid your fees and have an ID card yet. It is open to public use but it costs $$ each time.

Yeah, the ARC is a very impressive building. It opened in the winter of 2000, and they recently added on a bunch of intramural fields. It was during my freshman year that the students voted to build the ARC, but it wasn't completed until halfway through my senior year. But it's a great structure. Aside from a full gym, it's also got indoor basketball courts, indoor volleyball courts, racquetball courts, indoor elevated track, rooms for aerobics classes, TVs, pool, roller hockey rink, tennis courts (I think), and much more.

Wow, are the pools and tennis courts indoors, by any chance?

the pools and tennis court are outdoor

What about the Crawford Athletics Complex? Is the stuff there, like the weight room, tennis courts, etc, open to general students (not on the team)?

I've never heard of non-athletes using the Crawford gym for anything. The ARC is pretty sufficient though, in fact sometimes you'll even see some athletes at the ARC.

Crawford used to be open to everyone before the ARC opened. I wouldn't want to use Crawford anyway. It's a much older facility.

I got my UCI ID today and drove down to the ARC. They were able to offer me membership :)

But yeah, I had to pay :(
