I heard that UCI has a gym, and the site talks about a lot of programs and trainer workouts, but is it possible to just walk in for free and start using the facility?

Yes, you gotta let em swipe your ID or register your hand for scanning though.

Yea UCI has the ARC (Anteater Recreational Center) which is about a 10 minute walk from Middle Earth. It is one of the best gyms in the UC system and Kobe Bryant even works out there every now and then. As long as your fees are paid, you can walk in by simply giving your UCI ID card to a person at the front desk to scan.

There are two weight rooms, multiple basketball courts, many racquet ball rooms, volleyball/ badminton court, many classrooms and a track on the second floor, and a pool. I’m sure there’s more but I only lift weights. I’ve been there pretty much everyday for the past year.

Hope to see you there ^_^

Dont listen to this Batllo, he’s probably a gym-noob playing as an internet tough guy >.>

Don’t worry about that stuff now, just try to enjoy and workout with a friend if you can. The ARC is a very social place.

Didn’t get to see what he wrote, but yeah, I probably should get a trainer person for the first quarter because I don’t know what the hell I’m going to be doing/never been to a gym before. Hopefully my roommate is someone that goes to the gym.

ARC fee’s are covered by your tuition, which breaks down to ~77$ a quarter, not sure if this has changed at all…

the arc costs us $35 a quarter (covered in tuition, however if youre a continuing student (ie taking summer quarter off), the arc costs $35 for that quarter)

How’s the pool? It seems nice from the pictures I’ve seen. Is it usually crowded?

the pool is good and quite large. its never been crowded as far as i know (im there everyday so you can trust my opinion) with at most about 15 people in it at any one time, usually around the corners of the shallow ends.

it gets full when the fraternities and sororities claim it as “their’s”

Whenever I go, I always have to share a lane.

what time does the gym open / close?

I heard Kobe Bryant comes by there sometimes since he lives nearby

ya he lives in newport which is like 5 minutes away
