In retrospect, I probably should have applied, but after witnessing the credentials of the individuals who were rejected with SATs of 1300+, it leads me to believe an acceptance would have been an act of God.

Ethnicity: Mexican

Freshman GPA: 3.1 UW and W
Sophmore GPA: 2.6 UW and W
(transferred to another school and busted my ass...)
Junior GPA: Unknown UW (don't remember), 3.6 W, AP World History... 4 on the exam!
Senior Year*: Unknown UW (too lazy to calculate), 4.1 W, 4 APs (AP English Literature, AP US Government, AP Calculus AB, AP Chemistry)

ACT: 26 composite in December 2007 (28 English, 30 Maths, 24 Reading Comp and 23 Science)
SAT: 1270/1940 in December 2007, 1290/1970 in January 2008

Junior Varsity Football in 9th grade only, Ceramics/pottery, Spanish Club, CLC, School Newspaper Editor, National Beta Club, 75 community service hours...

And a well-written essay about how I went to Mexico and saw a bunch of poor people and how it motivated me to do better in school to become a doctor for Doctors Without Borders and help them.

*Keep in mind that the deadline was November 1st and they very likely would have made a decision before seeing my senior year 1st semester grades

I really don't know.UF is pretty random.

you never know dude. im convinced UF is forced to pick out of a hat becuase of so many applicants

im serious when i say that after a certain point it doesnt matter. above 1200 and 3.5gpa they just pick randomly.lol. but for real, its something like that.

Well I got above a 1200 but a bit below the 3.5 gpa bar... rejection probably?
Oh and everybody who goes to UF ends up like this guy:
YouTube - Florida-Gator Cheer!! Must see!

I hate to be the prick that says you would have been denied but....90% sure you would have been. It's not that you're grades are bad, the problem is that you show an upward trend (Started out low and finished strong). When I visited UF last spring, they basically told us at the informational meeting that anyone who shows an upward trend in grades and did not start strong immediately is looked down upon by the university and unless there are extenuating circumstances, chances of admittance were slim to none. Although UF is a good school, it is still a public university and for a public university, officials at that school have their heads way too far up their asses. Don't worry about not applying, there are a lot of great schools out there and you'll find one that fits you.

Oh and btw, I was denied too :) haha

LOL what were your stats anyways? I am guessing somewhere above a 1300 and between a 3.8 to 4.2 GPA!!! :)

Anyway, yeah, I am looking at the UCF Honors College and University of Miami (Florida)... I really like UCF because of its proximity to Disney World and stuff (where I can get an annual pass and go every weekend!!!) and Kennedy Space Center (I'm majoring in Aerospace Engineering w/ a pre-med course track). Also, the campus is beautiful and is made out of circles!

I've already been accepted to FIU and UCF regular, I'm waiting on the Honors College now! Although I don't want to go to FIU... it's not a bad school or anything. It just doesn't have Aerospace Engineering. It also feels just like high school due to its close proximity to where I live. But then by that account, UM would feel like it too.

thats my problem with FIU. its basically high school for me which is exactly what i dont want. god i hope UF appeals go through. im seriously doing everythign possible to appeal and be successful.

True that! Besides, I really need to get out of Miami. Life at my house sucks and I want to get away from my controlling parents. Additionally, I don't like the lifestyle that the Cubans here portray with all their reggaeton and rubbish.

yes exactly. from the time i went to gainesville at 9 years old ive liked it. reminds me of south carolina, where i was born, im cuban but damn the cubans get annoying alot.

My brother goes to UM and he has been chastized by his friends for staying home. I think he is sort of a masochist, willing to stay under the rules of our strict, religious parents who whip us every day with electric poles for applying to non-sectarian schools... :)

But seriously, I'm an adult now! I'm ready for the real world!

Bubby,
If you are looking into majoring in aerospace engineering then I HIGHLY suggest you look into Auburn University (And this is coming from a guy who's going to the University of Alabama haha). I'm willing to swallow my pride and advertise Auburn because their aerospace engineering program is phenomenal! Also, you would be nice and far away from Miami. Granted, Auburn is a VERY small town where everything it's Auburn football, frat parties, and like 4 bars. To some, that sounds like the perfect college town but after experiencing Athens (UGA) and Tuscaloosa (Bama), Auburn life can't compare. Also, have you looked into Georgia Tech?

I have looked at Georgia Tech as well (I've been there, phenominal campus)... but I can't afford out-of-state tuition. I like to keep it nice and cheap. Besides... my ultimate goal is not to be an Aerospace Engineer but a doctor. However, being an aerospace engineer is a nice career to fall back on in case my doctor ambitions fail.

I've gotcha. Yea Tech is a really fun place seeing as how it's smack dab in the center of all the best things of downtown Atlanta. Haha you're going to be hard pressed to find a school that offers both a good pre-med and good aerospace engineering program. Where else are you looking at?

I was looking at FSU... but it's too far away. I applied there, but I don't really want to go if accepted. Besides, UCF just recently opened up their medical school.
