Hagget, McCarty, or McMahon?? which is better for meeting people as a freshman

Since I'm getting ready to apply for housing, I've decided that my top choice will be Lander: beacuse its all freshman and I've heard you get the "freshman experience", making it really easy to meet people.

I think im going to put Terry as my second choice because I've heard its similar to Lander, making it easy to meet people, and lots of its residents are freshman.

But I don't know which to put as my third priority and so on (assuming you just prioritize ALL of the halls when you apply).

All i really care about is being able to meet a lot of people throughout the whole building or whatever. Which of these halls (McCarty, McMahon, or Hagget) would be best for meeting tons and tons of people. I've heard that in McMahon (cluster rooms) you don't really meet a lot of people outside of your cluster-mates, and thats not really what I want.

So i guess the real dilemma is between Hagget and McCarty???? Both have just double and triple rooms, but does anybody know which would be better for meeting people???? Thanks!

btw I'm a freshman

I was in the same dilemma too. I just chose McMahon and Hagget although both I heard are pretty anti-social and I don’t really want to go to neither. As long as you sign up today I’m sure you’ll get Lander so I don’t think you have to worry about being stuck in your other options.

haha ok good.

Yeah i skipped baseball practice so that i could sign up right at 4:00. part of the app actually was online like 5 minutes early, so that was nice. I realllllly wanna be in lander for the people, i don’t really care about the facilities, i’ll manage.

Haha nice, yeah basically from 3-4 I was on my computer getting prepared to sign up as soon as possible. I was getting kind of frustrated though because to get to step 3 or 4 (I don’t remember) it literally took 5 minutes to load and I was freaking out. It all turned out good though.

Good luck to both of us getting Lander! I reallllyy don’t want to be in triple rooms. When I visited 2 days ago, my friend showed me the triple rooms and wow… the rooms are small enough as it is and having to squeeze in 3 people for a 2 person room is just too much lol, which is why I tried to sign up as early as possible.

So McMahon, Haggett, and McCarty were my top three choice for housing, because I am afraid that the other side of campus will be a bit too wild to keep me focused on my classes (I don’t know if it really is that crazy in Lander-Terry, but I would rather be able to party when I choose than live AT the party)… Any opinions on if my dorm choices really will make it hard to make friends? And if Lander-Terry dorms are not as bad as I am imagining??

Well, I didn’t make my choices based on the facilities haha, because I’m sure that Lander is a little bit sub-par to the other halls like McMahon and McCarty (i know that ill be able to cope with whatever Lander is like, I can get used to anything). I just chose Lander because I figured it would be the easiest to meet people, I know that I can balance my studying and my partying so I’m not worried at living “at the party”, even though I’m sure its not like living at a party, I’m sure you’ll be able to get your down time as well.

hey cman did you get my private message?

Hey, I don’t know if there’s anyone on here already at udub but I’m going to be going in as a sophmore transfer and possibly trying to live in the dorms, seeing as I’m out of state. Anyone know which dorms would be good? I assume lander and terry are freshman only but I would really like to meet people and form a great base at the university.

^^ I believe only lander is freshmen only, where Terry is a mix of freshmen and other underclassmen. I’m 95% sure about that stuff. You can double check it online or call them (206-543-2100)

Terry/Lander are practically off-campus, whereas Haggett, McCarty and McMahon are definitely on; much nicer buildings and surroundings, and closer to the Quad and Red Square. McMahon is suites, the others are the traditional corridor model. When I was there many years ago, Terry/Lander had a rep for being kind of rough and are the only ugly part of a huge and gorgeous campus. I lived in Haggett which at that time was a party dorm. McMahon is probably the quietest because of the suites, and lots of older students living there. McCarty/Haggett/McMahon share one dining hall, in McMahon; but it’s a short walk, about a city block from McCarty, less for Haggett.

If I had to choose today, I’d choose McCarty.
