You know this site is pathetic for a number of reasons.

There are people on here who ask others to "chance them" when they have a 4.0, perfect SAT scores, and like two pages of EC's. (Like someone that busy would ask others to "chance them." or even be on this site for that matter)

It's funny how there are not that many people that get perfect SAT scores and yet....most of them see to be on this site lol...RIIIGHT. According to the people here, almost everyone has a perfect GPA and SAT score...im sure.

When someone does ask to be chanced and they have an incredible record, others tell them that "they have an OK record"

GIVE ME A BREAK. I highly doubt that the majority of gifted students are on this site so often. I know that this is my first and last post because of how busy with school I am. I wonder where all these geniuses are finding the time to post on this site in between inventing a cure for cancer....it's pathetic.

Part of being smart is understanding where you are at in terms of college and seeking out the help of others who may have special knowledge about what you need help with.

Lol, my profile is only a little above average imo.

Because it’s relative. Yeah they might have a great record for an ok school, but for an ivey league school, it’s might not be so great since EVERYONE applying to top schools have near perfect marks.

I was wondering how everyone on this website seems to have perfect scores too, but I doubt that someone would be so delusional as to create a fake profile…

To be honest the people on here are not liars, as I have personally meet people from this website at Yale. The truth of the matter is that not everyone has perfect stats (I didn’t) but the people who care enough about college to actually go to a website about college admission are going to be top students.

This website is also an incredible resource of information about the application process, and a realistic glimpse of the competition and what it takes to get into top schools. But moreover having people read and critique your essays helps TREMENDOUSLY, I had at least 10 people read my essays for colleges from this site and it was a huge help. This website is like having a private counselor for middle class kids who can’t afford a real one.

It may not be as black and white as you make it out to be. While I don’t expressively agree with everything the OP listed, I do believe that it’s not at all hypocritical to point out potential flaws in others that are, in more way then not, inapplicable to the OP. So in the same way that you justify your own pointing out of the OP’s lying about liars, he too is using the same justification for his own assertions.

I guess what I’m trying to say then is that we really shouldn’t just go ahead and bash the OP for expressing his views. No harm intended to anyone.

This is a joke just because you have great stats doesnt mean anything to admissions committees they want the whole package and many kids with great stats do get rejected all the time

1) Having been a part of CC for a few years now, I do find it funny the “Chance me and I’ll chance you back” posts. My thinking is if you can’t critically analyze your own stuff, why should I trust your opinion of mine!?!!? LOL

However, I think most of the “Chance me” posts are borne out of peoples’ hope to get a better guage, some encouragement and/or constructive criticism.

2) One does come across some perfect scorers. However, there are plenty of folks who post their profiles who don’t have these too. I would posit that when you see a perfect score on multiple posts, these stand out to you (because they are indeed rare and remarkable). However to extrapolate that everyone who posts perfect scores is lying is very poor analysis. I think everyone would agree with that. Could it happen? Sure. Who is to check. Could there be some sick jokers? Sure.

But what purpose would it serve for someone to not post their real scores if they indeed, are here on CC to get assistance. If I said I got 2400 rather than an actual 2100 and I’m looking into the most selective schools, what would I gain? Think about it.

3) The “you have an OK record” – are only opinions (just like your post). Frankly, most students here have a poor sense of how much the actual admissions officers weight relative context. So the Northern Virginia 4.0 GPA student president, NHS, Basketballer with 2200 is considered differently than the 3.9GPA science whiz from rural West Texas with a 2200 SAT.

But to call everyone a liar: What’s with all the hatin’? No need to interject so much vitriol, is there?

hahahaha what you said about chancing is so true. But about how people on this site all have good scores, maybe some of them are lying, but if someone is on this site then they’re stressing about college because they care. The kids with worse scores don’t care as much, so they don’t bother going on this site.

I agree with T26E4. The chances section has so many people who just care about their chances yet chance others without knowing the standards of schools well. It’s sad. But oh well not much you can do.

No actually it does not because I haven’t claimed that I have perfect scores or a perfect GPA. Maybe you should learn how to read and then attack me. Also, notice how most of the people who responded to my thread laughed or agreed and you are the only one that was offended? Wonder why.

I don’t think the profiles are fake but I do think that they are very embellished. For instance, my stats are OK which is why I was looking for information on the net. If I had the stats that so many people on this site claim to have, I would not be second guessing myself.

You have to realize that the people who ask you to “chance” them are bragging because they’re just looking for reassurance. They wouldn’t ask if they could get into a particular school if they didn’t already think that they could, so you have to let it go. I totally agree with you that it is annoying, but just ignore them. If you’re feeling nice then give them a kind word, but if you’re bitter just go ahead and tell them they have no chance. Just don’t let it get to you.
