Happy Ending

Lately everything that I've read is sad. The Glass Menagerie, Night, Hamlet, As I Lay Dying--can you guys recommend me some books that aren't sad? I need a break for some happy endings!

hehe...no good literature has a happy ending...or so I'm told :P
and I agree, no memorable books I've read have happy endings - two of my favorites are Tess of the D'urbervilles by Thomas Hardy and Love Story by Erich Segal.

umm...I hear The Accidental Tourist by Anne Tyler is relatively good. I've never read it, so I don't know whether the ending is happy or not, but it doesn't seem too heavy/deep/overly dramatic, so it might be a good bet.

I liked Tess of the D'urbervilles, but only toward the end and not the beginning. Maybe because it was assigned reading that turned out to be accidently on the "list." Regardless, I'm happy I read the book anyway.

If y'all like Thomas Hardy, "Far from the Madding Crowd" is his most happy-ending work, but its still kind of sad.

Oliver Twist :D

For fun, read Pledged, its all about sororities....kind of facts and drama mixed...pretty funny...

Try reading some mysteries, good for the brain, but not sad at all

Or, science fiction, Issac Asmiov has some really good stuff

Pride and Prejudice
Jane Eyre
Harry Potter :)
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime
The Importance of Being Earnest

Life of Pi--mildly happy ending.
The Phantom of the Opera--yes, it was a book first. Ends differently than the movie and musical.
The Odysessy--sorry, I'm listing stuff we read in English this year...actually, I found it to be an interesting/fun read.
The His Dark Materials Trilogy (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass)--I love these. Vaguely like Harry Potter but much more complex and interesting.
Almost anything by Michael Crichton--His books nearly always tie up everything nicely in the end. Good especially if you like scifi/fantasy/science. But I hate most scifi books and I like his stuff.

Rosencrantz Guildernstern Are Dead is funny but it's whether you like dark comedy or not.

The Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy is really funny (the movies rubbish so don't be put off!)
