Everyone says it is next to impossible to change your major at Cal Poly SLO once you have been admitted. Is this true? How about at other CSU's?

In Cal Poly, it is easier to change major within a college than between colleges. For example, if you want to change majors between EE and ME, and your GPA is not atrocious, then the change should not be too difficult.

But if you are in college of agriculture and you want to change into college of engineering, then you will have a substantial challenge on your hand because college of engineering is a lot more academically competitive than agriculture.

Yep, I checked with the engineering dept before we decided to move forward with SLO for my son. The change of major policy was a “deal breaker” for my kid. However, we were pleasantly surprised that last year they actually made it easier to change majors within the same college. Between different colleges, ickglue is correct. The reason why is that SLO gets you working in your major the very first quarter of your freshman year. You dive right into your core classes. So, when you change majors you are already behind the other students after the first quarter. Some classes overlap of course, but the intro classes are unique to each major. By the way, the procedures are published on the Cal Poly web site. Here is an example: [College of Engineering Advising Center - Changing Majors](http://eadvise.calpoly.edu/dept/major.php)

This link will give you all the correct information directly from the school. It will also give other links to each department in the engineering program for change of majors (see the bottom of the linked page).
