Brown is definitely a nice school, but I know I’m not qualified enough due to my test scores and ECs. My parents will not believe me despite all of the stories I’ve shown on here, as well as the common data info. They are heavily stressing that I apply to it as my one reach school. Is there any chance that I will make it, or should I just drop this school off my list and not waste my time.

I’m just a little frustrated rn because my parents won’t take anything I’m saying seriously, but they’re probably annoyed for the same reason… Is there any advice on how to convince my parents that there’s no point in applying to somewhere that’s completely out of my range?
Thanks.
Well, Brown just announced that they are committed to graduating students debt free by increasing aid packages. There is going to be a greater diversity of applicants this year, which could actually work in your favor.
Would you attend if accepted? Then you should apply.
If you don’t think you would like it and an acceptance would drive a wedge between you and your parents, then another school is probably a better choice.
@BuckeyeMWDSG their announcement is why my parents want me to apply. I do think the school is amazing- just out of my league. I feel like I should just focus on my matches and try to get scholarships there. After reading some of the stats of those who got accepted vs denied, I don’t see how I would be accepted with my ECs
What’s driving a wedge between us rn is that they don’t understand how competitive admissions are and get mad when I say how low my stats are compared to others. They can’t seem to think realistically but maybe I think too pessimistically? I don’t know.
If you’re so afraid of failure, you will never succeed. You have to take chances. - Mario Andretti
Again, would you go if accepted?
Yes - Apply
No - Don’t Apply
With a 4.0 UW GPA and a 33 on the ACT you certainly appear to be decently academically qualified… You’ve founded a club and done some other nice stuff… I don’t know about the chances but it doesn’t seem to be completely out of your range or a waste of time, as far as I can tell.
Why do you think you aren’t qualified? You are number one in your class and your scores are in range. Please don’t think every successful Brown applicant builds spaceships and solves world peace. Most of them look like you.
I’m not saying that you will get accepted. 20% of valedictorians are accepted – so 80% are denied. You might be in the 80%. But then again maybe you’ll be in the 20% (which is much higher than most other applicants).
