HANDS DOWN I WOULD CHOOSE BERKELEY.....i want to go there because i love it......yea harvard is one the best university in the world, but i KNOW i would be happy in UCB......
which one would you choose?

I wouldnt get into either but i would def choose UC Berkely. Harvard seems so boring and overrated.

^^ agree.....if i cant get in ucb....i dont think i would be motivated in any schools.....ill be so nostalgic for ucb

Harvard is not overrated, it's just over-reputed. Those that know stuff about it can attest to this, I'm sure.

And it's definately not boring, I wouldn't let any Harvard students hear you say that.

As for the difference, what fits you? I'd prefer California, and I also want to do engineering, where UCB is ranked better in.

i have nothing against harvard kids....they are just like me...trying to be successful in life.......but now these days.......seems like people do anything to get in to harvard......

Tell me more about UCB. I am determined to give it a second look. Last time I visited the campus, I did not feel wonderful or so great.. It is so crowded here and there. The building is old and shabby. Of coures, we can not judge a school by that. But tell me, what do you think so great about UCB??

Harvard...

much better undergrad programs..

Berkeley tends to focus on graduate school. I heard Berkeley's undergrad program isn't that good.

I want to stay on the East coast and attend a school where 90% of the students aren't from the same state and aren't paying tens of thousands of dollars less than me.

I'd choose Harvard.

Berkeley...!

Berkeley only if it was free.

Harvard.

no way in hell am i going to a college with 20,000 kids.

If they were the same price, Berkeley.

Berekely's a great school, but Harvard is Harvard.

i hope on march 30th, i'll have a choice between UC Berkeley Regents scholarship and Harvard...

that'll be a tough choice since i'll only have to pay 8k a year for berkeley and 40k for harvard.

Well, as a Berkeley student who rejected Harvard in favor of the UCB's Regent's schorlship, let me tell you that I am quite happy with the education I'm getting.

I know the rundown city of Berkeley might shock many suburban kids, but it's really not that bad. There's so many people everywhere that you'll feel safe unless it's like 1 AM. Of course, the academics are among the strongest in the world. Unless you're an elite member of MENSA, don't expect an easy time.

There are many housing opportunites in and around campus....just gotta compete for them. (shouldn't be hard if you don't leave it for the last minute.) If you like volunteering, Berkeley is the world's capital of volunteering....

Something you gotta understand about the Berkeley student body, though, is that it breeds radical individualism. You're free to say what you want, dress how you want, and associate with who you want. Don't expect most students to be your friends. Most will be your academic enemies. But that doesn't mean that getting close to people is that hard. I mean, if you can't find someone you like among the 20,000 undergrads, the problem is most likely you. That said, there IS a tendency for clique-ish behavior here, and most people have their cliques. Most of the time, these cliques either carried over from high school or started in freshman dorms.

About the professors: yes, it is true. Getting personal attention at Berkeley does involve a lot of personal initiative. Simply put, either go to office hours (which almost nobody does,) or don't get personal attention.

you idiots, berkeley aint that great of a school. it's only ranked up there because of it's research grants.

^^^ interesting........but why the diction "idiots"?

Harvard, duh. I hate Berkeley. But Harvard's kind of overrated, I think. Don't really like either of them much.

Ok, if you actually get in, is there any way in hell you would turn down harvard? Would you ever forgive yourself?

Harvard! I live close to Berkeley...I would die if I went there.
