Yawn. I would rather make a mistake on one word on a college forum that I don't proofread and that won't mean anything to me ten years from now than making the mistake of applying to top colleges with a 3.67 GPA...and getting rejected from all of them.

Here's my question.... Are you on the admissions board at any of these schools?

If not, what makes you think you know the first thing about admissions into these schools?

If you don't think he's qualified "washingtonian151", then don't come here to ask. He's right. I hope you do get into those schools just so you get your *** handed to you.

wow.... I'm sorry if anyone got worked up about this.

To Uvajoe and desertman; sorry if I offended you in anyway, I just thought you were being unfairly harsh towards my friend due to his race. If that was not your intention, then I apoligize for MY harsh remarks.

To gospy; First, it wouldn't be my *** handed to me. Secondly, there are some people on these forums who do know what they're talking about/ do have some experience with admissions boards.

Geeez
relax!
We'll all get into colleges and be successful and meet that special someone and have great sex and have an awesome job and drive an awesome car and live till we're a hundred
the end

Cheers to that!!!!

I was implying that you would have great difficulty achieving success at the upper echelon ivies. I stand by that.

And I'm not sure what sex has to do with any of this.

Quite frankly, a student thinking they can get in because of their race is the fault of the colleges. The only reason a student would hold this belief is if the colleges let in students based solely on race. So, desertman and whoever else, it is not an applicants fault if they get in while a more achieved person does not. That onus belongs to the university.

That may be true, but he still believes it. Take the civil rights movement for example. Does it make it ok to be racist just because that is the environment that you are raised in?

who is that post directed towards?

Cuz i was just saying that you can't get angry at an underachieving minority applicant because a school chose to accept him.

sex is hawt
ok, to the people earlier: sometimes colleges just need minorities, just like they need applicants from a certain school to make a relationship for the future.. or just like they need athletes who are retarded.. just to play that sport.
Don't get your panties tied up in a knot about it, mkay?
And yeah, I don't think anyone's being racist about anything.
Cut the crap

I never said anyone was being racist. I was merely posing a hypothetical situation to show that it is his fault that he thinks he is deserving. Take away race. Do you think someone who isn't a minority would have a decent chance with those numbers. i don't think anyone can say yes to that.

Even if they don't have a decent chance, they can and should still apply.

Excellent point, gospy. They still can apply, but for them to think they are competitive is only deleterious to themselves.

My comments were meant as factual, not derogatory. There are a number of valid reasons why certain URM groups score lower on standardized tests and may have a lower GPA. The predictions based on scores are not as clear cut for URM groups. His scores place him in the upper reaches of his URM group, and therefore make him an attractive candidate for upper level schools. It's just that simple. Top schools don't want a monolithic class.

Desertman, then let it be detrimental to their themselves. That should be no concern of yours.

Listen, having a 1900 on your sats is impressive if your school's average is like 1400 and you live in hicktown where you have to work 40 hours a week to support your family. Desert kiddo you're looking at this in black and white. Admissions officers look at your scores in context to your background and environment..so gospy, you cannot be certain.
blaa i love how everyone is so serious and using words like detrimental and trying to sound like they know everything.. haha
funny you guys funny

I'm not saying his chances are 0... I'm not saying he shouldn't apply... It just bothers me that he thinks he has more of a chance than he does because of his race.

i only used detrimental in response to desert's deleterious.

"It just bothers me that he thinks he has more of a chance than he does because of his race."

How does anyone know his chances for sure, we are not adcoms. So you may be bothered because he is applying under the notion that he has higher chances than YOU think he has.

This thread is a screaming "epitome" of just how insecure a prestige whore can be...wow!!!

Grassy-ass hotpiece :)
