Hahaha, I hear that UNC is a wonderful school. All the people who I know that are there/have graduated, love it. Why don’t you want to go there?

Anonymous93 you are everywhere!!! LOL

I am assuming that abcderinkay wants to break a tradition.

Or that he (or she?) likes some other school much better.

Haha, I never notice it but I do say “hella” all the time. Though Ive talked to SoCalers and they also say it, so I guess its not as special as I thought :(

Lots of CAers here!!

@xargon:

be hella proud of your “hellas”… i say it too but not as often as folks from norcal :P

and indeed, alot of Californians here XO

but to be honest, i dont really know alot of californians applying to harvard.
most of my friends just applied to UCLA, UC Berkeley, USC and other in-state school. i guess thats less competition from my area to get into harvard XO

I (yes, a she) live in North Carolina. It is a wonderful school, and I will always be a fan. But when you live in-state, it loses a lot of that prestige because it is so easy to get in. That doesn’t bother me too much. However, probably 57.43% of my graduating class will end up going there. And another 32.13% will be at NC State right down the road. It is so easy to get stuck in this little hometown bubble when you go there, and I really don’t want that to happen.

And an even more important factor, I have fallen in love with several other schools even more! (i.e. Harvard ) If financial circumstances/acceptances really leave UNC as the only option, I would go there and be super happy though. They have a great j-school.

Hahaha, @collegestress16 - true that. I am everywhere. Twice a day I do my customary check of the threads. And then I leave. I don’t really like to sustain conversation on here.

@abcderinkay - Yeah, I understand. I feel the same way about WashU in St. Louis. I live not too far away from it, and it’s like “a back up” school for a lot of people in MO. I would be thrilled to go there though, if that’s what ends up happening.

^^ViggyRam, I share a story similar to yours. My dad is an automotive worker and mom is a cook for a nursing home. Only two people at my school, out of about 1500, are anyone near my intellectual level(not to be haughty, they just prefer make-believe or drink). That’s the main reason I apply ivy, so I can hope to be around people similar to myself. If you make it to harvard, or anyone on this forum, we should meet up.

As for where I applied, in response to cgarcia, I did by my own research. My parents(i.e. dad) really wanted me to stay local and go to the state university, but I blew him off. For the education I need, and mindset, I’ll have to go to an elite school far from home. I only wish I could have visited all of them and shown my family…

Oh and Anonymous93, hella! Though I’m from the KC side of things…

@dorime- Hmmm, weird. I didn’t know there were so many Missourians applying to Harvard. Are you an MSA-er? Also, do you sing?

Sadly I’m not an MSA, though I really wanted to go…;-(. And I have all the singing ability of sanjaya though with today’s computer technology that may be just enough to get a singing career… And I only know one other person applying to Harvard, but he’s in springfield… Where are you from anonymous93…?

yea, I just need to get out of my community. It’s pretty sad, everyone is so annoying and it’s like they have nothing better to do. My brother quit his baseball team to go to another and everyone makes such a huge deal about it and they say that my Dad is a liar and that we are betrayers and all this garbage. Like W T F?My 11 year old brother quit his team to play for another, big deal. That’s the kind of environment I live in. People are so insular (think this means narrow minded) and don’t know what the REAL world is out there.

Yea, I don’t like my chances for Harvard, but I am going to apply to UTAustin too and other schools. I feel like the US offers so much more than does. Oh, and could people go to my thread in the College Search and Selection forum. It’s called CANADIAN TO SOUTHERN SCHOOLS. I am kinda stressing over an issue that’s mentioned in the thread and also need suggestions for more southern schools. Thanks

18 pages and decisions haven’t even come yet.
Good Luck Everyone! Try not to drive yourself crazy waiting…

I know this is random but is it true that Harvard dormitories do not have cable television? It is just a random question…I was skimming through Harvard Crimson articles and it was talking about dormitory renovations. Anybody know the answer?

only Canaday has cable, I think. I did the summer program two years ago and none of the old dorms/houses have it. I really think it’s just Canaday, which was built in the 1970s and also has riot proof windows lol. It’s also HIDEOUS. and shaped like a question mark from an aerial view. The older houses are definitely much nicer looking but not on the inside, just a heads up.

Really? gulp Oh well tv isn’t everything but I do love it a lot!

no TV? screw Harvard, I think I’ll go to UT-Austin…lol. But seriously, no cable? How can I watch sports? Maybe its a good thing, cause I never get anything done when it’s playoff time in the NHL, MLB, or NFL.

www.espn360.com - Thank god!
