Harvard RD 2014 Thread

^yes, thank god is right lol. gotta love espn and sportscenter

I visited over break and if you are going anytime soon I know a good place to get burritos near campus, it’s in the basement of The Garage. Anyway good luck to y’all and all that.

I believe all colleges do this to an extent, particularly for athletic recruits.

Well how can Harvard not have cable when I see videos on theu.com of students who have these huge television sets?? lol

Maybe to watch DVDs and play videogames? I don’t know actually! I’m not sure if I’ll survive for four years without watching television… although I haven’t watch anything for like two months though… Hmm.

I mean, who watches TV nowadays anyway? You can get everrrrything online. My proctor had all of his video games so you can definitely bring those and also I think if you pay to rent the TV from the housing office you get the basic channels.

Lol I still watch tv.

^ I feel like Stanford (and maybe MIT) does that more than Harvard. Since Stanford’s admissions statistics are all over the place and its essays seem to have been somewhat more personal, I think it emphasizes personality more than HYP does.

@ Handala92: MIT’s only “very important” aspect of an application is character and personal qualities ([MIT Office of the Provost, Institutional Research](<a href=“MIT Institutional Research”>MIT Institutional Research)). And they always talk about “The Match Between You and MIT” ([MIT Admissions: The Match Between You And MIT](http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/pulse/the_match_between_you_and_mit/)). So I think they emphasize personality to a greater extent than HYP. I haven’t looked at Stanford at all, so darkblademaster may be right about that.

I still watch tv, too. hate watching stuff online. my computer chair is less comfortable than the couch ;)

I wish there is a Harvard student that can clarify on this lol

I love TV. It’d make me sad if I couldn’t watch it anymore.

Stanford definitely emphasizes character a lot more. Of course, stats still matter, but people who have accomplished amazing things have still gotten rejected from Stanford. Normally, people get accepted to HYP and rejected from Stanford, or they get into Stanford and get rejected by HYP.

Hmmmm that’s interesting. I love TV too. I can live with the fact that I may not be able to watch True Blood or Entourage in college but no tv at all?! Ugh…but then again if I am really interested in the school, I could cope lol!

There is always the internet ;-)

True, though the internet might be too much of a distraction. Moreso than TV :)

Oh! We haven’t asked this question yet:

Assuming you get into every college you applied to other than Harvard, where would you go?

Me —> Stanford. (I already got rejected SCEA, though).

OMG that’s a tough one! First I would probably cry of joy, drop to my knees, and thank God (yeah, I am a religious one tee hee  ). It is a three-way tie between Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, I suppose! I am trying to weigh all my cons! I am sooooo not good at making decisions, especially big ones like these! I like Yale because of its great art culture and the social scene. I like Harvard for its all-around excellent programs and its proximity to Boston. I like Princeton because of its all-around excellent programs and the undergraduate focus.

I’d probably either go to the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Michigan, or Wash U because I don’t think my parents would help me pay for Yale or Duke(there’s a long story behind this that I don’t care telling).

What about scholarships?? I know it is a bit idealistic, but you should register for Fastweb, or BrokeScholar.
