Harvard RD Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

You go girl/boy. I like your philosophy. I wonder what’ll happen to this year’s applicants 10 years from now…

(Girl.)

I think no matter where we go, the type of person that applies to Harvard is pretty driven, so they’re likely to find success somewhere down the road.

Harvard, like other Ivies, is a crapshoot and when decision comes down after the hard facts such as GPA and test scores, ECs, and such, it all boils down to whether the committee likes you or not, so in the end, a bit subjective as whether they think you’ll fit the school or not. Thus, I expect a rejection (especially since I’m Asian and the competition gets extremely tough). Will I be disappointed? Yes, definitely! It’s my favorite school, it offers great FA for my family, it’s a place where I can find myself fit in. But I won’t be depressed as I know chances are not in my favor.

@hola1997 That’s a good way to look at it. I am also especially hoping for Harvard because of the fin aid, it would help an enormous amount. My sister goes to college in seven years and my parents are already stressed about her.

I’m gonna join here too

Nothing like avoiding homework by jumping all over CC threads.

Honestly, even though I have a few schools that I LOVE, if I am accepted into any of the schools that provide full-aid, I’ll be thrilled.

@whitespace lol all ive done today

@mjstewart1224 SAME! I really don’t have the luxury to prefer an ivy over another, because in the end, I care most about the aid.

@schroscat EXACTLY. USC is lumped in there too.

I’m actually procrastinating on applying for a few scholarships… local rotary clubs, chamber of commerce, etc.

@mjstewart1224 I have some hope for Tufts, considering my interviewer and I cried together.

Wow - and here I was thinking I had a good interview with Harvard.
I didn’t cry, but I started advising my interviewer on the best schools in the area and where the most kid-friendly parks were (he had just moved here lol)

My Harvard interview lasted 2 1/2 hours. So I’m taking that as a positive sign.

It’s been pretty hard at the beginning of the month as I just nervously counting down the days, but then after that, I just became “meh” and kinda resort to accepting whatever the outcome may be. It’s been pretty hard since I couldn’t sleep for a week and just kept thinking about the decision but I realized that there’s no use worrying since I can’t do anything now. I hope everyone will be able to go where they want. Only 16 days left!

But do interviews really mean anything? Ivies seem to brush them off as NBD.

@whitespace Here’s a run down of my interviews:

Yale: Talked about theatre for the entire time.

Harvard: Started with my school, then my story, then about books, teens’ obsession with media, life, bookstores, my weird Turkish life, and THEN I started talking about the miraculous sewing machine.

Brown: My interviewer was LITERALLY Bernie Sanders. We talked about medicine, what I’d do at Brown, political science, the American Dream, and how screwed up AP is.

Cornell: Quick little info session. We talked about a few little things about medicine.

Princeton: We talked about science, how WE LIVE IN ELECTRON FLUFF, my culture, how Princeton iS LTIERALLY HOGWARTS, my judgement criteria of schools based on their bookstores, how weird college is…etc

Tufts: Life story. Struggles. Crying.

@mjstewart1224 The general consensus on here seems to be that a good interview can marginally help you, and a bad interview can marginally hurt you. But not a big impact.

@hola1997 Same to you! I was doing pretty well with the whole “don’t worry, it’ll get here eventually” thing but this week for some reason I seem to be very stressed. I imagine that it will be even worse over my spring break next week.

My interviews were so formal-ish :open_mouth:

@schroscat So literally doesn’t really mean literally to you, right? You weren’t interviewed by Sanders?
