What my interviewer didn’t see: It was at a starbucks in a pretty ritzy part of town that I don’t normally venture into (last time was for homecoming photos) and I parked, then wondered around for a good 20 minutes trying to find the coffee shop before circling back around to find it right across the street from the parking garage. In my defense, it had no sign. At least my nervous stupidity was used up before I started talking. :))
I didn’t even receive an interview. :((
I had my Harvard interview in their home, one in Manhattan, one in my school, one at a local coffee shop, and one at Starbucks.
I enjoyed all my interviews. I’d say Dartmouth and Harvard were my two best, but I like interviews, and the whole process comes naturally for me.
Those sound like fun interviews! I enjoyed mine for the most part.
Brown: Generic, he told me about a reggae class he’d taken. Probably my worst interview.
Harvard: Awesome, as described. Other than the pain of trying to find that stupid coffee shop.
Vandy: Pretty good, talked about how well I’d fit in.
Georgetown: My first, so I was a little nervous but I think it went well. Connected over the fact that we both played nerd trivia.
Interviews were probably my favorite part of the application process.
@schroscat I second that!
Not for me…I’m made up of 80% awkwardness, 10% oddness, and 10% WTFness. It was really hard not to weird people off the bat…
I rambled about sewing machines in three of my interviews. I mentioned how I’m probably related to my entire village in Turkey in two interviews, and I had a why-medicine-induced coma in which I rambled in every single one.
I had an interview for the Jefferson Scholars program at UVA and it was going great until one person (it was 4 on 1) asked a question that I just completely did not understand. I asked her to phrase it differently, gave a stupid, weak response, and pretty much took myself out of contention.
@Grapess happens to all of us.
Yale: She talked a lot, but she was an English major and a lawyer, which is the exact path I want to take. I was able to ask her a bunch of questions. We were shushed by the librarian twice for laughing too loudly.
Harvard: 2 1/2 hours in a coffee shop. I can’t think of a topic we didn’t cover. The time flew by.
Dartmouth: Books, books, books. We had a lot of similar opinions on literature and politics. She shared a lot of tips on life and Dartmouth, and her love for the school was obvious.
Brown: A lovely older retired gentleman conducted my interview. We had a shared love of Constitutional law, and spent a lot of the time discussing recent Supreme Court cases. We had a good-natured argument over who is the best Justice. I felt I made a good impression.
Amongst other stuff, got rejected by MIT today, so that would mean 2 of my Horcruxes have been destroyed. Will any part of my soul last this ordeal? I don’t know. After being deferred from Harvard in early action, and then not getting an interview due to “no local alumni being available”, I don’t really know what to expect.
At least, I got two interviews though UPenn and Princeton; the latter one being actually really fun, (The UPenn guy was boring )
hey fam, SCEA 2020 admit here. I just wanted to wish you all the best of luck. I know that decisions are coming out soonish, and I’d like to offer you a word of advice: try to stay as far away as possible from this webpage while you still can. Right now, as it is just speculation, it’s easy to stop by this page and chat. BUT, if you get in the habit of checking it, your life will be miserable the few days leading up to D-Day. It’s not fun, and especially for you guys, you should be enjoying your Spring Break/Last Months of High School instead. Just a tip. But seriously, you all are incredible people so good luck!
GUYS I GOT IN
I got a Skype call yesterday from the admission officer who interviewed me (I’m an international applicant) and he told me that yeah I got in. I haven’t realized yet. I guess.
Good luck to all those still waiting for their decision!
