Harvard SSP! Who got in!?

Lane, I'm taking Law & Psych, too! : )

Are you on the Harvard SSP Facebook group?
(<a href="http://hs.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2246809587%5B/url%5D">http://hs.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2246809587</a>)</p>

Spiffystars, you had applied under QuestBridge before, yes? I remember seeing your name in the QuestBridge thread.. It's good that both of us are still going to SSP regardless : ) Did you get a lot of FinAid from SSP?

I just joined a couple of days ago, and I just posted on the wall, so you should add me!

I can't wait for Law & Psych - I heard that it's AMAZING!! (<a href="http://www.dce.harvard.edu/pubs/alum/2004/29.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.dce.harvard.edu/pubs/alum/2004/29.html</a>)</p>

spiffystars - do you have facebook or myspace?

2. for rentals, i hear they are wayyy worth it...especially the fan...also i hear it's good to have water bottles in the dorms, & a fridge if you can, since we can only go to annenburg at certain times

BE CAREFUL WITH HSA RENTALS! In many, if not most, cases you can BUY the object for the cost of renting it from HSA. For example, you can get a great $15 box fan at Walmart and keep it (or resell it at the end of the summer). No point in spending that much on an old rental. Similar deal with the fridge/microwave combo (especially since the microwave on that sucks).

Completely agree with justforgetme. Yay for summer school! I'll be taking a pre-med requirement this summer. Just ordered the books today...

I can't log in, it says to use my Social Security number or assigned number beginning with "@," but I didn't send in my Social Security number and I don't know where to find my assigned number.

Okay so I'm thinking that we should make a list of things to buy or take for SSP. I guess I'll start:

1) desk lamp
2) your own bed sheets
3) order your textbooks
4) buy a cheap fan
5) LYSOL (I'm a clean freak)
6) get a debit card

copy+paste+add please..

Why do you need your own bed sheets? They don't have them there?

you have to rent them...and quite frankly, i don't want to.

Well, I just got officially accepted. People say it's not too prestigious, but I think it will be a good experience. I look forward to meeting all of you.

How many courses are you people taking?
On the course schedule, it says that my class only meets two times a week and only in the afternoon. What are we supposed to do for the other 5 and a half days or so?

If you go for 8 weeks, you HAVE to take 2 classes.

Oh, where does it say this? It seems there are some rules that I missed

Not necessarily true Spiffy...

You need to take 8 credits if you go 8 weeks.

For instance, last year, I took two 4 credit courses. This year, I am taking one 8 credit course.

I know that, but the class lhslexingtonorg spoke about meets "two times a week and only in the afternoon." All the 8 credit courses meet four times a week (M, T, W, Th) while the 4 credit courses meet twice a week (M & W or T & Th), therefore the class the OP was looking at was a 4 credit course, meaning he/she would need another 4 credit course to pair it with.

the experience is phenomenal. i learned many valuable lessons @ SSP last summer. And... you get 8 credits . I made wonderful friends and learned many things about myself and college that you cant really get from a community college summer course. I now know what to expect when I enter college this fall and I know how to budget my time and organize my activities in a much more efficient manner -- You wouldnt get that from a local CC. Plus, when you apply to OTHER colleges they tend to think of you highly if you have those credits from such a respected institution... as opposed to CUNY Harlem (doesnt exist) credits. Think of that. Definitely worth every penny. I miss SSP o4. sigh.

No actually taking classes at your made up CUNY Harlem is actually better for admission purposes. Attending Harvard SSP shows you have money in an age where socioeconomic diversity is highly regarded. Harvard doesn't need more kids who can afford to pay 3000 for a 6 week class. The 2nd guy who posted was right. A local college would make you stand out more. It shows more initiative and less relying on you parents income.

^ Unless of course, you're going with lots of financial aid, cough.

But yeah I agree with you I guess. It just shows you have money.

u takin econ as well!! Cool" me too
but i'm at wigglesworth..

for the applications, do the counselor and teacher have to write a seperate recommendation other than filling out the 1 form?
or do they just fill out that 1 form and send it in?

I am taking calculus 1 and neurobiology. I was just wondering how hard at the classes relative to AP classes?
