Harvard SSP

Oh, nice! I don't have time to go.

I hope my teacher and counselor send in their forms on time.

Well Hey guys. I got back from going to the Open House. The trip was really fun. All the directors and protectors seem really really enthusiastic. It’s a really nice environment. I thought it might be too big or too small of a space but that’s not the case. We saw the dorms, libraries, eating hall, etc. (all from the outside thought since we weren’t allowed in.) There were a lot of families there around 100 or so. They gave out a lot of free stuff which is always a plus : ) I got a t-shirt and 2 pens. After the open house and tour I walked around Harvard Square and it is a nice place. It has lots of tiny restaurants, a movie theater, nice stores, lots of tiny clothing stores and some big ones. Oh ya if you know where to go the area can be really cheap otherwise you can end up spending a lot. I spent like 4 bucks on lunch and I was full for the rest of the day. I spent $30 for a cab from the airport to there and only spend $1.50 on the way back (which was also faster.) The trip was really fun, if you guys have any questions go ahead and ask me. I’m still debating over Exeter and this program, if any of you have been to either please tell me or give me some feedback on both programs. After the open house I’m leaning more towards Harvard’s SSP program.

Ready kids!!!??!!??

My Harvard and your Harvard were sitting by the fire. My Harvard said to your Harvard, I'm gonna light your Harvard on fire. Talking bout.........(take it from here kids)

Just one question, tennispro. How soon did you get your acceptance letter after you sent in all your applications? It says that all applicants will receive notification within two weeks, but I was wondering if most people actually have a shorter waiting time.

If I don't receive my notifications of receipt envelopes back by the end of this week, I think I'll ask my teacher and guidance counselor if they sent their stuff in. And then I'll call...

Just call right away dementer, or else you might miss registration (its starting soon).

What classes do you guys want to take? I'm looking at the Dylan seminar.

Oh shoot. I knew I should've applied earlier. When is registration anyway?

If my GC sends out her stuff on Monday, they'll have received it by Tuesday, right?

I hate how I can't edit my posts after it's been posted.

Anyway, did you mean that I should call to ask whether I've been accepted, or to call to ask whether they've received all app materials? How soon is "right away"? (Sorry for asking so many questions. I get very stressed over these things.)

I'm hoping to take Beginning Fiction. I hope it doesn't fill up quickly.

Demeter don't worry the deadline isn't till much later and as I said before the usually accept everyone. You can either call to make sure that they have recieved everything or you can check online, login on their site and then you can check. I'm debating between 7 classes but I narrowed it down to 4. I'm still unsure.

Dementer, just call and check on the status of your application, they'll tell you everything they know about it. I wouldn't stress it too much though, as I think the only classes that fill up really quickly are the seminars.

What 4 classes have you narrowed it down to tennispro?

Oh, lovely, I received a registration PIN number so I can check the status of my app. Glad I don't have to obsessively call the office now.

Thanks for all your help and reassurances, guys. (:

Nice job demeter, so are all your papers in?

Come fellow CC's I really need advice on which program is better Exeter or Harvard's SSP. Any one ever been to either of these? Please help me decide.

My GC said last week that her report with the transcript and score reports would be sent today, and it'll probably take the office a day or two to file it. My parents and I have a conference with the GC this Friday, so I'll ask her then (don't want to pester her too much, since I saw her three times last week).

As for the teacher report... I'll ask him on Wednesday.

As of now, the Harvard SSP office has my HS-I, HS-II forms, the expository writing sample, and the app fee. Just as everything should be.

I mean, since the program isn't very selective, I'm sure I'll get in. And it's okay if I don't get my first choice, since there're lots of other 4-unit options (not staying for the whole summer - too time consuming).

hey glad the openhouse went well tennispro. OK, Ive gotta admit, along with all the amazing classes there are to pick from, I thought the whole social life was pretty nice sounding… we’re free to do anything, right? I mean like after class, we can just head out to Boston, right? At least that’s the impression im getting from the website and brochures. Do you know anything about this, tennis?

That's the impression I got, too, lights_out, and that's exactly why I'm so excited for this. Boston is my favorite city in the entire world (I'm lumping Cambridge in with Boston, actually), and I'd love to explore it more.

Boston is your favorite city in the entire world?

Wow.

Yes, it is. I love NYC, but I prefer smaller cities. I've been to LA, San Francisco, etc, but I still love Boston.

Really, you'd take Boston over San Francisco or NYC? Have you ever been to London or Paris? They're pretty cool. Oh, and have you experienced Boston in the winter yet? It completely sucks! Whereabouts are you from?

Yeah, I didn't particularly like San Fran. The couple of days we spent there in the summer, it was miserably windy (it didn't help that my dad is overly enthusiastic when traveling). Although I did like visiting the Stanford campus. (: (I know it's not in San Fran, though.)

I've not been to London or Paris. Haven't had the luck. I wanted to go to Nice for an exchange program this past summer, but my parents didn't want me to go. Rather unfortunate. =/

And yes, I have been in Boston in the winter. This is what I love about living in New England - the seasonal variations. Winters suck, but I wouldn't be able to live in, say, LA where the weather is pretty much mild year-round. I live relatively close to Boston, but I don't go there very often, since it's not entirely convenient what with gas prices and everything.

Wow - in all my years of living in New England I don't think I ever met anyone who liked the weather there lol. I am actually shocked right now!

Hahaha. I suppose my opinion will change when I'm living on my own and have to do all the shoveling by myself, but for now, I'm content with the weather.
