Harvard Transfer (wannabes) Unite

are you guys still able to check your status? i'm not..haha...but i think it is just that i've forgotten my i.d...i've had mine memorized for almost 2 months but haven't checked my status for a while. i'm pretty sure i'm using the right id, but i guess i just forgot it...hopefylly i'll be able to find that sheet they gave us with the information.

Yeah it's still working for me... though, there were a few times throughout the semester when I was sure that I was putting in the right ID, and it didn't work. So maybe the system is a little shoddy.

the ID and pin is just for checking the completion of your app, right? cuz i never used it, and just called to office to make sure they had everything on file...

Yes. And they also show your address, phone number, email, and such as they have it.

ALERT: I just saw a report on MTVU's CBS news update talking about university and legal officials looking at Facebook profiles and using them as sources of information on which to make decisions regarding student conduct . . .however, the focus of the report shifted toward the end, saying Admissions Committes are now looking at Facebook profiles to determine what kind of information they can find on a student . . . WHAT!!!

So . . um . . I guess I like my profile and I have a hot picture, and quotes from famously intelligent individuals and rather stimulating interests (and no self-incriminating pics, either).

Yea, wow, this opens up a new can of worms . . .

This is why I have paranoid settings on my facebook. Also, how would the adcoms see your facebook? They have to be at your school to see it without requesting to add you as a friend.

God . . . that's totally true!!! Why would the news report say that then? So weird. And MySpace profiles are tough to find, too, I can never find a person based on their name. Hmm, oh well, I guess I'm over that!

Yeah chill out :)

I don't mind. I hope they look me up. I've got nothing to hide.

lol "William R. Fitzsimmons (Harvard) has just listed you as a friend."

I wouldn't doubt it too much, Layla. There are always connections to utilize. It is, after all, the web.

Check out this, straight from The Crimson:

http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=510708

I'm with you though, SIglesias, haha. They're more than welcome to look at mine; it's almost as dorky as me.

hopefully, they checked out my facebook profile..cause it is same with what I have been telling them!! good article, janel89..appreciate it!!. once i heard about it two-three weeks ago from a student and didnt think there would be something like that..but you never know..

so does anybody know when harvard is going to send out emails? next thursday, friday or tomorrow? anyone heard anythign from admissions office...thanks..good luck all!!!

I'm REALLY sick of waiting.

I looked over last year's threads, and noticed an interesting pattern:

Among those who claim to have received interviews (7 of them, i think), 3 in the end got in (they had damn good GPA/EAs/'Uniqueness'), and all the rest got waitlisted. I don't know who's applying as a 1st year or 2nd year though, since Harvard may interview more freshmen transfer applicants. Of course this is also not to say you have no chance getting in if you were not interviewed.

so 7 people who were interviewed posted here last year?

This year it's more like 12-13. Either CC is getting more popular or there were more interviews this year.

I didn't get an interview, and I wasn't admitted to Columbia or to Yale. I have very little hope left.

Yea . . Taken from the article . . .

" . . . facebook.com’s privacy policy states that the site may provide access to student’s personal information to third parties to facilitate business and that it actively gathers more information than the student provides.

'Facebook also collects information about you from other sources, such as newspapers and instant messaging services. This information is gathered regardless of your use of the Web Site,' the policy states."

Yea, Layla, I'm not 'chilling' on this one. I do hope they look at my profile, not because I have nothing to hide (which is true), but because I really like how I'm portrayed, even if there are lots of red plastic beer cups in my pictures - I am of age, and I'm social, and am smiling and laughing in most of them, except when I'm looking demure :) .

But you can set paranoid privacy settings like I have. Anyone who is not my friend at Drexel cannot see my profile, and any non-friend at another school cannot even find me in searches.

I am currently studying abroad and I was wondering if any other transfer applicants who were abroad or were international recieved interviews?

I'm international and I got one- zuzunkao if I remember correctly got one and fred got one as well- they're both international-
This year I really don't think interviews might be a good indicator of one's chances given that they've interviewed so many people- dunno tho, but that's the impression I get-

Layla:

I don't think the privacy settings you personally control really matter that much at thiss level. The people who administer facebook and deal with businesses/admissions offices always have access to your full profile, regardless of your privacy controls.

Proving this further is the fact that even when one deactivates his/her account, one's profile never really goes away. You are able to reactivate it at anytime..nothing is destroyed. So, it seems to me, that once you activate your account...give them your email address, identity, etc, you're pretty much signing yourself over to the facebook team...allowing them permanent access to the information provided on your profile....Hope everyone has Harvard-worthy profiles! Good luck!
