I'll be visiting Harvard next week because I can't make the Admitted Students Weekend. Do any Harvard students have recommendations for what I should definitely check out on campus/around Cambridge during the two days I will be there? Thanks a bunch!

Be sure to see all the ends of the campus so you are familiar with the possibilities of being housed as a sophomore up in the Quad, as well as the concrete high-rise (and low-rise) of Mather, the eastern-most river House. For freshman housing, stroll down Harvard St. to Prescott and see Pennypacker, Hurlbut, and Greenough, the “Union” dorms. Not all frosh live on the Yard.

Any favorite hangout places (cafes, bookstores, restaurants, etc) that Harvard students visit often?

Check out Pinocchio’s, it’s a great pizza place. Or you could go to Upper Crust, which is equally good.

Relax in Lamont Cafe, but I’m not sure if you could get in without an ID…maybe you should ask the Admissions Office for an ID.

But most of all, talk to current students and hang out in their dorms or at parties.

Noch’s (Pinocchio’s) > Upper Crust!!!

Now, Noch’s vs. Bartleys (a landmark burger joint) is just too close to call.

Are you staying with a student or at a hotel? The former would make for a much better experience, and the admissions office can arrange it. Check out an interesting talk or event (best source of info is just the posters around campus but this site [HarvardEvents[/url] also has a good list).

See a few classes (Locations: http://webdocs.registrar.fas.harvard.edu/reports/courses/classroom_meeting_locations.pdf](http://events.college.harvard.edu/)). Spend a lot of time in a dining hall or two - and have the courage to break the ice and ask random folks what they think of the place.

Wander along the Charles (especially if the weather is good). Maybe pay a visit to Widener (they should let you in to the main library, but you probably won’t have access to the stacks).

In the Square, I like the “Museum of Useful Things” ([Museum of Useful Things](http://themut.com/)) - but more common Harvard hangouts are the Coop and Berryline.

And, hey, maybe you’ll have a wild night that ends in a summit of the John Harvard statue. Just make sure you’re the first ones to get there.

^^ Thanks! Yeah, I scheduled an overnite with a student, which I am excited about, and I plan on dropping in on a couple lectures. I’ll be spending two days there, so I want to cram as much of the Harvard experience in while I can so I can make a good college decision…does the admissions center/any other building have maps of the campus to hand out? That might be helpful : )

Do NOT believe the tour guide if s/he suggests that Harvard students rub the statue’s foot for good luck and invites you to do likewise. That’s the statue’s fourth “lie.” :)

Make sure to try to get into Annenberg Hall, Sanders Theatre, and the Queen’s Head Pub. All three are inside Memorial Hall.

Check out Pizza Ring. Highly recommended.

What’s the hot chocolate place? It’s so good. Go there.

I hope this is a joke…

Hot chocolate place = http://www.burdickchocolate.com/stores-and-cafes-cambridge.asp

^Legit. When my friend got into Harvard, her sister who already went there didn’t say congrats or how wonderful or anything usual, just “Now we can get hot chocolate together at Burdick’s!”
