i wonder how many are on it?

newhaven, that's an interesting question. I'm curious to know too. The letter says that they've had as much as 20 people taken off the waitlist in some years (and some years, none) so the number has to be greater than that.

annie,

Congrats on Harvard! By the way, did you only apply to Harvard? Is it really that great for mobility? I thought there were other schools in the area that are as good.

I got waitlisted too. Would it be okay for me to say yes to Brown, go to summer school at Brown, and then pull out if I get accepted by Harvard?

harvard may not be the best with mobility issues, but it is definitely better than wes (i broke my hip due to falling repeatedly and was advised by the dean to take a semester off because I would be in a wheelchair). After struggling with wesleyan more than I would like to (only one dorm is accessible, and it's all-freshman) I knew I would have to look at larger schools (to put it frankly--they have more money). Though Berkeley or Stanford are probably better, both are too close to San Francisco for me (I'm from SF) and both had other drawbacks (B is too big, and S was where I had both my surgeries, so it doesn't have pleasant associations). Harvard offered an academic program that I loved (i'm hoping to get into Social Studies) as well as accessability, plus their Disability Resources Center got back to me within a day when I emailed them with questions. And I loved the environment when I visited.

and yes, it was the only school that I applied to--I didn't want to apply to all the ivies and then feel like I would "have" to choose one of them over wes even if it wasn't the best place for me.

Oh, so you knew you would get into Harvard? That makes sense.

no, i didn't know that I would get in at all. But I do love aspects of wesleyan (especially my profs) and I didn't want to leave for the wrong reasons--I wanted to make sure that I was applying to a school that I would be happy at IF I got in, and I also knew that I would be happy staying at wes if I didn't get in. Trust me, I was making no bets on harvard's admissions process.

was anyone admitted to Harvard from overseas or from Canada?

Fewer than 100 waitlist offers.

was this a definite number or a ballpark figure? i tried to call but they said they couldn't release that the numbers

i got waitlisted too, but im not staying on.

helen of troy, i am surprised that you weren't admitted. Can I talk to you about the Jack Kent Cooke scholarship you applied for?

P.S. I was rejected, had an 800V 770M, 800's on all four SATII's and Writing and a 4.0 with good EC's. I'm an int'l student, needed fin aid. Something tells me that Harvard isn't really need-blind, as far as int'l students go.

I read somewhere that if you are not geographically fit (for the particular year), they don't even look at your file....bummer :( Anyways, shoot...I'll answer any q about JKC scholarship :)
