I have received an e-mail from a professor in the neuroscience department and was wondering if this was normal? Anyone else get any e-mails or contact? I did indicate neuroscience as my intended major but, just wanted to know if anyone else was contacted.

Yes I was contacted by an Applied Math professor (I indicated Applied Math as my intended major)

Yes, by letter from someone in the music department.

My son got a letter yesterday signed by the chair and vice-char of the CS department, but it wasn’t personalized.

^That was probably Tom Doepner. My guess is departments that accepted less than 10 or so students probably gave relatively personalized letters, whereas other departments didn’t because, for example, Tom doesn’t have time to go through all 50 accepted students, even if he’d really like to (and I’d be very surprised if he didn’t have a desire to get to know all accepted applicants, but it’s just not feasible).

Have you committed yet? I know my son received a call from one of U-M’s professors and I would tend to think the calls are made to students that have not made their commitment. Of course that is just my speculation.

Actually, my son received a highly-personalized letter last week from his area rep, the admissions officer who advocated for him in committee. Is this typical? It seems like an awful lot of extra work.

Yea i got the email too and met him at ADOCH, he was pretty cool lol

him and professor Stein are pretty much my new favorite teachers and I’ve barely spent any time with them at all haha

and yea some of the admissions officers do send personalized letters I got one from my officer and I met her at A Day on College Hill, she knew EVERYTHING about me, it was both cool and eerie haha

It is pretty usual for our admissions officers to send personalized stuff. They didn’t for me, but they did for the other kid from my high school who got in my year.

I received an email yesterday from Dean T for the Biology department, but it wasn’t personalized. However, earlier on I got a personalized letter in the mail from my regional admission officer. It was heartwarming :)
