Has anyone found out about their financial aid package yet?

I'm not sure what you consider good merit aid, but merit aid usually only covers tuition and $15,000 is more than half. I know the school is expensive, but I still consider that good merit aid.

I would kill for a 15 thousand dollar grant...that would mean I could go. Anyone want to start a fund??

I just found out today. My stats were about the same as the people who got the 25,000 grant (2240 SAT, 4.0 GPA, 1/360 rank, bunches of ECs and musical honors) but I got a 12,500 from the presidential, so I'm kind of disappointed, even though I'm glad I got any sort of scholarship. I guess I messed up on my essays, whichever they were. But anyway, I got
12500 Presidential Scholarship
1000 work study
1313 Loan (which drops exactly 1 dollar to 1312 for spring semester...)
so 14813 is my total "aid"
Which ends up not being enough (My parents set a limit at around 20,000 a year...I think they could push it to 24,000, but our actual EFC is 10,000).
So.

i don't think I am going.

I got a total of 29 thousand for the fall and spring semesters including loans, grants and an 18,000 dollar deans grant. Your stats seem so much better than mine. Doesn't make much sense to me. Unfortunately, I don't plan on attending AU. You can have my merit scholarship lol.

I find it ironic that some people are actually complaining about scholarships. Seriously, just be grateful that you received anything.

peachy are you sure thats not just per semester?

Oh wow

I'm a complete idiot

I didn't even notice that it went by semester

foot in mouth

This means I probably CAN afford American, I'm happy.

(By the way, I'm sorry if I came off as "whiney," I was more sad that I couldn't afford the school than about the 25,000 scholarship thing)

peachy that doesnt make any sense, look at your yearly total. That should tell you the amount of aid youre getting. Im betting your scholarship is 25K.

Peachy, I wasn't directly addressing you. It was more of a general statement for this thread.

yeah I just edited my post, I'm going to run away from embarrassement now

the embarrassment is increased because I typoed embarrassment

since presidential scholarship is their top scholarship, there is no way they would make it less than the deans scholarship.

I got the Deans Scholarship for 15k plus a unsubsidized stafford for 2,625, so my total aid comes out to 17,625. Whats strange is I got merit aid even though I wasn't invited to join the honors program. Definetly not complaining, although this will make the decision process a lot more interesting should I get accepted at Tufts or Georgetown.
