Well…Cornell was my dream school when I first started looking at colleges and when I visited I loved being there but it’s just so BIG. I come from a tiny school too and to consider that Cornell had a class that was over 1000 people was crazy, even if it did split into discussion groups. My school from pre-k through 12th is only a little over 200 students. I didn’t feel like I could get the personal attention or research opputunities I wanted at Cornell even though I loved the campus and just being there. I think I would have gotten lost and I wanted to be a person, not a number. And only about 50 % of students live on campus and quite a bit of the social scene is frats both of which I wasn’t exactly in favor of. So really, even though it was my dream going into the whole process, it ended up finishing behind others that I’d never really considered really seriously like Notre Dame and Tufts. It’s funny thinking back how I expected getting into Tufts. To be honest, right before I checked the decision online I was thinking, “I will be so unbelievably angry if I don’t get into this school.” But I had never actually considered going there even though I liked it when I visited. It was only when I was looking at my other acceptances and crossing them off one by one that I actually thought seriously about going to Tufts. And the decision went all the way down to the wire. I sent in my enrollment online at like 11 pm April 30. It’s funny, I took a poll of my friends and teachers that day asking “Notre Dame or Tufts?” and nearly everyone said Notre Dame and I think maybe I unconsiously leaned away from that. So, really it’s all by chance. I could have just as easily been a Domer if the majority of people had said Tufts which I’m sure would have been a completely different experience. But I’m ecstatic with my decision! :D

Thanks for the well-considered response, lioness1120.

I can understand your reasons for not wanting to make the move from a small school to a large and somewhat impersonal university, and commend you for knowing that your personal well being is more important than the perceived prestige of an Ivy. It sounds like Tufts is the perfect fit for you and since that aspect is the most important determinant of post-secondary life and success, you’re in great shape!

Once again, wishing you all the best in this exciting next phase in your life journey.
